Songbo is back to Marsiling apartments after driven by Pilot RJ Chen the previous week. Despite his relatively young age he has a minimum 15 years of flying experience as a number of SB members had taken some rides since sec one. This time round captain Chen comes up with a 20 pages report for this flight. Starting from Monday and Tuesday about spiritual issues to Saturday on toilet bowls. Too bad our “Kong Yi” is not around to help him his encounter, if not we would have a 10% (min) of his wages into our SB funds.
To him its one of the most valid reason for flying plane but to all this has to be one of the outright winner for “excuse of season” award until our Zhi Char towkay comes up with a sms at 4 am in Sunday morning to inform pilot Chen about going back to office to clear up his work hence unable to turn up for match day. As both reason are so “valid”, our panel would have a hard time to decide on the award winner for the coming AGM.
Match day begins with a sms at 7 am from pilot Chen requesting for imports as we got a couple of last min withdrawers. Luckily Lusty Seng answered to our call at the expense of his preparation of his work’s presentation. This season has seen him step up and put his act together. Taking up the role of treasurer putting good shifts at matches, good attendance for matches and turning up for matches despite his own work commitments.
The referee for the match is a malay wearing shades. He turn up at SB camp and inform us that the opponent is his team hence no need worry. Ah lam has to be part of starting line up as berbaToh is late otherwise the team pick itself. Before the whistle is blown, opponent center half (left footed fighter cock) shouted out loudly “friendly”, “friendly”. The opponents played a surprising high line with their fighter cock leading the line. One long punt from tiger which Kenny did well to knock down put ‘rubbish’ Bin through. The speed of fighter cock is so slow that bin has all the time in the world to place his shot towards the bottom corner. Gods know with his speed why he played such a high line.
Being a goal down, opponents started playing better football. Their tall striker which is around 15 cm taller is causing wayang problems with football as wayang can only focus on him and no other things. Opponents kept raining at tiger goals but good goalkeeping resolute defending kept our lead in tact. Sb kept trying their luck with counter attacks as their line was so high and easy to beat. Rubbish bin had the ball in the net once more but was rule out as paul scholes was offside when he lay the ball to bin which was very contentious. The shades which the referee worn prevent him from seeing the white lines clearly as paul scholes was a good 1 meter in his half when referee called for offside when clear on goal. Either the shades that is playing tricks or because its “his’ team that he makes a lot of weird decisions that went against SB. The opponent finally had the ball in net when an easy looking shot took a bounce of the ground which wrong footed tiger. Tiger cant really be at fault for this goal is sort of a freak goal.
Half time whistle came and manager lam gives us his view on the match itself and surprisingly proposing a change of formation. Pilot Chen felt that SB is in good shape hence no need for a change of formation. Second half changes would be only some reshuffling as bin is put in GK and tiger right wing berbatoh partner Kenny up front. The opponent changes their tall and fit striker for a short and fat fellow.
SB started the game flying of the blocks and berbatoh did well to earn a penalty kick after a foul by the opponent GK. Wayang step up to take responsibility of kick. As the best PK taker in the team everyone expected him to put that goal away but to the dismal of himself and teammates, he smacks the ball against the crossbar. Tiger reacts the quickest and put the rebound back the net via a mis-kick. Great work by him for following up on the rebound. According to rubbish bin the goal post was slightly shorter, if it has been a standard goal post, no keeper in this world would ever save that penalty as it was placed perfectly at the 90 degree bar area. But in life we learn that we should aim for perfection as in this situation, it prove otherwise as a more central or simple shot would have easily beaten the GK. It was later reported that 5 mins before the PK wayang offer the chance to take any penalty to chaos but was rejected flatly. Now his penalty taking responsibility is put into question. When question about his penalty miss, wayang was quoted saying “the strong would not be affected by little set backs, I would still go for the same angle instead of an easier shot down the center.” This shows what a strong personality has had and confidence in his penalty abilities.
Being a goal down opponent push forward for an equalizer. But with a short and fat forward, the defense kept them in the pocket easily. SB scored another with a good counter attack. Barbatoh broke down the left wing with a clean sight on goal he let go an easy and soft shot to the keeper’s bottom corner. Keeper makes a save but was not able to hold onto the ball, Geylang king rush forward to bang the ball in. Good anticipation by G king but barbatoh should have done better and score after putting through. F**king good goal was the shout by tiger but the tall striker thinks otherwise and call that a damn good goal. This stupid comment came even 15 minutes after the match ended which left both opponents and SB players stunned.
As SB lead 3-1 fighter cock got his act together, he started to quarrel with pual scholes over small issue (change of match ball). Against the run of play again berbatoh went through on goal and this time round he did not even test the keeper. Maybe is due to him coming late for match which affected his confidence. Opponent score a good goal when the short (skinny) number 12 make a great turn and finish with a shot to the bottom of the goal. Game on but despite some corners earn, they did not test rubbish bin. The game ended with fighter cock making noise again this time about rubbish bin with his time wasting tactics. Bin has every right to time waste and not pick up the ball with his hands but opponent thinks otherwise and un-sportmanship from SB. Maybe some pork would put sense in their head.
Every players put in a good shift for the team especially pilot chen and lusty seng. As the referee mentioned, the opponents are stupid by taking away their tall striker for a short and fat one as this game plan fell into our offside trap. SB brothers lets look forward to our next games with our head held high.
