Tiger Yan

Massimo Taibi...a name not commonly known to people except those that started watching football since the 90s. This 'legendary' figure to Songbo is someone that they dun wish to be associated with. First, Taibi spirit starts to creep into our ever reliable PapaSoh....and now for the match 125....his spirit decided to flow into another person....Tiger Yan.

First half was a stalemate at 0-0, due to incompatability with Sparrow, Goal Machine and Tiger upfront. Just like the current England squad, the 3 of them has proven that they can't play together. With Papasoh leaving at half time for work issue, its Tiger Yan who took up the post.

Minutes into the 2nd half, with the abscense of our speedy Seafood King, the opponent races clear and one-to-one with Tiger....Tiger waited till he is in firing range and charges out....but with Taibi possessed inside him....he touches the ball but somehow the ball bounces off the opponent's leg and its 0-1!

"God damn it!" exclaimed Tiger. But its not over....2nd attempt saw a ball slide under his body after another one-to-one situation, but lucky CapiTan is there to do a last ditching clearance near the line. 3rd attempt saw Lam clearing the ball near the line after the ball bounces off Tiger.

When morale was lowest at this time, our Sparrow stepped up....with a through pass from Goal Machine from the centre mid...saw Sparrow chasing down the left side of the box and a left foot shot put the ball into the near post. 1-1!!!! Songbo equalised.
Minutes later, a long cross from Looney at the left flank was intended for Goal Machine, but he dumbie the ball to Sparrow and he was clear from the centre of the box, he dribbles down and slide it past the keeper. 2-1!!!! Goooooaaal!

"Beep Beep!" the referee calls for full time.
The team was happy and it was laughter at the stands. "Y u always so slow in coming out for the ball?....come out faster and communicate more..." this sentence keep repeating into Tiger's ears.
"I totally understand ur concerns gentlemens, but i am more confident staying by the line and use my reflexes to save the ball than coming out and give the striker an easier chance." explained Tiger.

Before they leave the pitch for their usual lunch session, Songbo members heard something..."hard disk now with who ah?"....the voice came from Looney.

Our opponents for the day were youngsters (nasi lemak). As usual, the team went thru the pre-match routine of shooting and crossing and getting some touches. The team is still missing our "mascherano" due to injury but dunno whether he wayang or not.

While sizing up our opponents, instruction were clear. We are to hold the fort against our younger opponents and to counter attack them, with high balls nto their box. While this may seem like a cliche, it is found to be one of the most reliable and effective tactic against our nasi lemak opponents.

The match started without much fan fare and the first half was a stalemate. Songbo FC were doing their part in holding out their younger and fitter opponents and chances were few and far between. Most of the battles were fought in the mig-field and neither sides had any clear-cut chances to take the lead under the afternoon heat.

The second half was a different story altogether! Instructions were to keep up the focus and not make mistakes. So far, our defence were holding out well and midfielders were matching thir younger counterparts stride for stride. Songbo FC were finally rewarded when Torres open the scoring after some nice work by Jackie Chan. 1-0! The lead seems so against the run of play and came out of a searching cross by Jackie chan but ever the nasi lemak, opponents underestimated the heading prowess of our toress and allow him to slip in unnoticed to nod the ball home!

After taking the lead, the opponents seems to find strength from some unknown sources and kept piling up the pressure on the team's defence. Alas, the City Wall was finally breached after a lapse of concentration by our defenders. A hopeful cross field ball was punted upfield and our ever-reliable C-cup collided with botak Kel and the ball fell invitingly to their winger who needed no invitation to lash home a first time shot past the helpless Papa Soh. 1-1!

Songbo FC are not to be beaten so easily. Recently we have had the training of gifting our opponents simple and silly goals in the hope of training our fighting back mental abilities. This training proved to be quite useful as SongBo FC capitalised on a set piece. A free kick was punted into their penalty box and Sparrow seems to be a tad too late to the ball but somehow managed to toe-poked or slice the ball past their lumbering goal keeper. 2-1!

On better days, SongBo Fc would have closed shop, lock up the grilles and prepare for the Mee-Pok session later. Somehow, C-cup seem to be thinking whether to eat "xiao wan mian" or normal mee-pok when another diagonal ball was punted into the danger area. It was exactly the same type of ball like the opponents first goal and this time, our two defenders seems to know how to get out of each others way but problem is both stood watching and thought the other will attack the ball. The end result was a first time volley by the thankful rightwinger again past papasoh. 2-2!!

Its a shame really not to hold on to the lead on both occasiona but then again, SongBo FC will be back fighting because we know we are better than this!!!

AGM 2009

For those not in the know, AGM 2009 has been confirmed to be on this Friday, 16th of Oct (yes, this post is late I know). From the response (or lack of), there has been no one who voiced out that he will be unavailable. There was one, but now he isn't flying anymore...

As for the venue and time, I'm pretty sure Capt Sparrow is getting the details down and we should receive a confirmation from him soon. We will have after AGM activities which will be decided later.

Therefore, get ready this Friday for an evening of fun, laughter, surprises and a great time.

Typically Songbo FC always recovers slowly from any round of testimonial match. Just after a 5-0 mauling in last week’s testimonial match, Songbo FC remains very much to be in holiday mood and playing pre-season football.

The day did not get off to the best of start when SSC sort of screw up and had no one to open up the field. After an impatient wait, a lumbering man finally turned up to open the field at half past nine.

Worse still, the opponents Songbo were facing in this match were a bunch of new fit and energized Non-Chinese. They seemed to have brought along their whole families for the match, judging by the amount of noise heard from the sidelines.

Songbo was hit with a mini injury crisis with Wayang Quan injured over the meaningless testimonial match and Mervin suffering from a strained hamstring. The long-term hernia injury of Sybian and the absence of JX and ComTan meant that Songbo came into the match with only 12 players. The day which 17 players turned up for a match didn’t seem too long ago though. Instructions for the match were clear: stay healthy to last the full match and use aerial balls to attack the opponents.

The match started on a fast pace as the opponents seem to settle in very quickly and started to dominate the game. It was all too apparent that Songbo was overwhelmed and intimidated by the sheer noise and style of the opponents. It was no surprise that given a quarter of the match gone, the opponents capitalized on a mix-up in the last line of defence and its striker coolly slotted the ball home in an one-on-one situation. 1-0!

Songbo had their heads hung low and the holiday mood didn’t seem to go off after last week’s match. However, they were constantly reminded that the opponents were not as strong as they seem. Against a run of play, El Nino planted a firm header to the back of the net from a corner and Songbo appeared to be right back into the match. 1-1!

Hopes were starting to pick up but it did not take long before another lapse in concentration allowed the opponents to break free and regained their lead with a simple finish. 1-2!

Songbo has been known in recent times for their tenacity in coming back from behind. The team quickly re-organised and out of a mistake by the opponent’s defence, El Nino broke free and put Songbo back on level terms. 2-2!

The entertaining and topsy-turvy first half soon came to a close and once again, Songbo was reminded to attack its opponents with aerial balls and pressuring their wobbly defenders into making mistakes.

The second half started as the pattern of the first half, with Songbo being forced back to defend its goal. However, the attacks weren’t exactly threatening and the score remained. Chances were few and far between and it became evident that either a moment of magic or a mistake would change the scoreline.

Unfortunately, the latter came true and out of a harmless-looking long ball into Songbo’s penalty area, Papasoh, who were to be crowned as Player of the Year, slipped and allowed the opponent to tap into an empty net. Songbo was left dejected as they had finally succumbed to the incessant pressure. In all fairness, Songbo did not deserve anything out of this match, given their lacklustre performance.

On hindsight, it would have been a better move to reward Papasoh with a new pair of boots instead of a set of gloves, given his costly. Or it might probably been the curse of the award, Player of the Year, which Kenny can bear real life testaments to its adverse effects. Is Papasoh being the ‘cursed’ one for this season? It shall remain to be seen and it can be assured that Papasoh would be closely scrutinized in the upcoming matches.

Today marks the return of robinho back to playing for songbo fc.It's his first match since his knee operation in Jan. Capt Sparrow decided to plan this match as a testimonial for him as he was suppose to fly off on the 6th. But plans have changed, and it might be kenny's testimonial instead, as he is going for overseas for his ict on the 20th.

Our opponent for today is wellington galaticos, one team that does not have much respect for their opponents. They are always fooling around and laughing without showing team discipline and Professionalism

We are starting most of the songbo members in unfamiliar positions. strike partners el nino jeremy and goo-ba yan are playing in RB and LB position respectively. Did their blooming bromance help to keep a clean sheets for songbo fc? it seems a big NO, they are better suited terrorising opponents defences instead.

Next as CBs are capt sparrow and mando tan, off the field these 2 are always poking at each other from behind, hopefully they can team up well to command the whole defence. But alas, they were torn apart by the younger opponenets. In goal will be zouk chua performing the goalie duties. He injured his ankle in the last match and has volunteer to be GK.

As we are playing 4-3-3 formation for the first time, the 3 midfielders under the command of papa soh are SME seng and Rebond huang. Among all 3, papa soh has the most experience of playing in that role. True enough, in the first half, he anticipate well the balls, and supply it to the front and let the 3 forwards do their jobs. Seng was doing well too, running around holding the opponents at bay, as for huang, he looked abit lost but nonethless gave his all for the team.

For the 3 forwards, all 3 were all used to playing defensive role for the team. Anyway robinho is the target man, while quick feet ken is on the left, c cup chao on the right. all 3 have a chance each to score but their finishing disappoints them. On the bench were teacher cai and speculator mer. Cai is taking a break while mer pulled his hamstring.

First half was a close fight, with both sides testing each other. and it ended 0-0. Our el nino playing his first time as RB for songbo, was full of energy running up to join in the attack but left a big hole for the others to cover it up. goo ba yan must have prayed to rio ferdinand the night before, as he was raising his hand up and standing on the spot everytime the opponent pumped long ball into our half!

The midfield was in disarray but papa soh was there to control and spray the passes to the forwards and winning the headers. c cup and quick feet ken were playing ping pong with each other. when either one have the ball, they will just swing the ball to the other side leaving robinho clueless what they are going to do. robinho playing for his first time since his operation try his best to avoid getting injured.

2nd half started with no changes. But galaticos scored and the flood gates opened. songbo have few chances up front, notably a freekick outside the penalty area. Robinho who is incharge of free kicks and corners stepped up to take it and curled it over the wall but explosion head gk was there to push it over the ball. The resultant corner ends up with gooba yan heading towards goal but he missed.

In the end a 5-0 loss to an unworthy opponent, whom we can win easily if everyone were in their familiar position. Next time we meet them, we will slaughter them and spare no prisoners!!!

*ps: robinho thanks all songbo fc members for the understanding and concern during his comeback match!

Undefeated for 6 games that starts as far back as Jul 09, Songbo seems to have recovered from their two losses and is chasing the record of 12 games undefeated set during May 07.

The venue is at the familiar Boon Lay SS, which we have been playing for the past 3 weeks. As our team captain is a big ‘fan’ of Liverpool, it’s not uncommon to see him deploying the ‘rotational’ system. The back 4 remains the same, changes are made to the GK, RM and SS. What kinds of results will this system produce? Judging from statistics for the past 10 games, the wins are by a goal, the draws are 2 goals and the losses are 1 goal. Good or bad? You be the judge.

As one can see, the forwards have not been producing the goals that they used to have in the past. Even though our very own ‘El Nino’ has been on a goal run of 2 games, he is yet to be at his best of scoring at least 2-3 goals in the past. When will his form return? Will we see it in this game? As opposed to the front, the backline has been solid for the past 10 games, conceding 1 goal for all the games except the last match, which they let in 2 goals. Praise have to be given for their hard work and concentration when most of the teams members are trying hard to score goals, they are trying hard to keep goals from coming in. However, there will still be days where they will lose their concentration and allowing stupid goals to be conceded. This is taking into the account of the ‘unpredictable’ performance of ‘John Terri cum Fatty-hen’. In games when his performances are exceptional, no attackers can go past him or even dare to face him. On his off days, he’s letting in goals that even a 3 yr old kid can score. Predicting how good he’ll be performing in the game is like winning TOTO group one prize. Thankfully, his ever-reliable partner, ‘Vic-Ken’ is stepping up as and giving the much needed support to him.

This is a team that we have played for a couple of times. If my memory serves me right, we have yet to lose a match to them. Winning most of the encounters and drawing once. It seems though, that they have been actively recruiting members. There are always new faces whenever we played against them. With our key players back, Songbo field an almost full strength team for this battle.

The first half was a disaster for our Terri. Mistakes are made with his every touch of the ball. No one even for himself knew what is wrong and it’s just a matter of time when the mistakes made turned into a vital one. A harmless ball from the opponent half targeted at their small speedy striker is usually not a trouble for Terri. But with his presence form, an interception of the ball becomes an assist for the striker. Who managed to take control of the loose ball and break the deadlock. 0-1! To add salt to the wound, one can see that Terri will still have more ‘gifts’ to present to their strikers as the match progress.

The partnership between Tiger and El Nino has been building up recently (who knows what they have been doing for the rest of the week). They seem to be able to telepathically sense each other’s location and execute a perfect pass to the other party, or follow up whenever one has taken a shot to catch the rebound. The equalizer came with most credit to be given to El Nino even thought Commando Tan loop a high ball in for him. With brute strength, he managed to muscle (gym trip with Tiger?) the defender off the ball and slot the ball home. 1-1! The second goal came soon after with Tiger making a superb right wing cross to find El Nino unmarked on the left. With his blistering pace and regained confidence, he added a 2nd goal for Songbo. 2-1!

With the thought of killing the game off early in the first half, Songbo began to push his backline up. This turns out to be a bad move as the score line is tied once again. A slick pass from their speedy striker sent their left mid through on goal. He make no mistake by putting the back at of the net, even though one can argue that our Papasoh could have come out with a better save. 2-2!

The performance of the front and back seems to be going in opposite direction. When the back is down for today, the front seems to be able to find back their goal scoring touches. Catching on to a loose ball by their GK, who had parried a ball off from El Nino, Tiger (who haven’t scored since Jun 09, where he got a hat-trick) was there to make sure the ball is in the net with an acrobatic right-foot-high-kick volley. 3-2!

(Zouk quan was injured in the first half, but as most of our team mates thought it was an act, even though it’s real, I have decided to not write on this. Everyone is free to pen their thoughts in the comment section)

The first half ends a remarkable performance by the two forward and a disastrous one by our very own Terri. After receiving some hair-dryer treatment from Terri is back with the hopes of redeeming his ‘worst-ever’ performance.

The 2nd half started very brightly for Songbo. El Nino was able to finally get his well-deserved hat-trick (last one was in Feb 09). Reacting first to the loose ball, he executed a perfectly aimed header to place the ball at the top left hand corner of the net. 4-2!

With a 2 goal margin, Songbo has effectively killed of the game. Even though the opponents has now fielded taller strikers and putting in more pressure on the Songbo’s defence, a revitalized Terri stopped every one of the attackers at its track. With ‘Vic-Ken’ at its best and Terri back to his norm, they both make sure that the number 2, stays at number 2!

In conclusion, a good performance by Songbo and an even better one by the 2 forwards. Even though Terri has played one of his ‘worst-ever’ game in the first half, he was able to give a good performance in the 2nd. But then again, who knows that it may have been his plan all along to play a bad game intentionally so that the forwards can stepped up and regain their goal scoring confidence. A conspiracy in the making? Maybe….

Its beeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn a long time since we had such a big turn up for a match. Can't recall when the full songbo squad turn up for a match..... Hmmm like never......
Nonetheless, the starting 11 was the same as 2 weeks ago as captain sparrows has demanded that those 11 rascals should make redeems for themselves .

Never had the warm up been with so much of laughter and fun. Still, captain sparrow calls up everyone to fall in for the usual team talk. Suddenly thing took a turn for a more serious note; individually, we must improve things like STAMINA (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE), AWARENESS AND OF COURSE BROTHERHOOD. This will enable us to help one other on the field when in times of trouble. For once, we must stamp our authority on the field within 20 min....

Things started quite brightly with el nino and papa song up front. The team need to turn half chances were turned into a goal but alas still .......... Opponents did not see much of the ball and song bo created chance after chance but they all went begging. 3 clear cut chances for the NBA star to stack a claim for the striker role came by but think he is wearing his basketball sneakers instead of soccer boots.

However, tiger yan was put to the test with a corner where he make a point blank save from the opponents header. Guess we can recommend him to Sir alex since ben foster hasnt been really a safe pairs of hands between the post.

Song bo just isn't ruthless enough to see off their opponents..... We have been very kind to 'share ' the ball with the opponents (May be the government can hire us to be the ambassodor for their courtesy campaign. Hahahaahah) who just make things difficult for us. Nevertheless, our reliable back four stood in their way.

Half time... Captain sparrow decided to be more offensive and wanted to see off the game with more attacking option. In came kelvin at right back and Captain tan at left back. Captain sparrow came in for a tired alvin who mind seems to be left some where else.

Nba star as given the cane for his lacklust performance in the first half. Must be the still thinking about the mj session that ended 5am... Oops....

He decided to redeem himself. Within 10 min in the the 2nd half , he won a 50-50 ball in midfield. By fighting off the opponents with his brutal strength, one would thought the opponents would end up in 2 pieces. After which, with a no look pass that to tiger yan that caught 2 opponents off guard tiger yan looks up and cross to the far post for el nino to waive his magic.....GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0 to the Songbos.

However, our El Nino was soon to be substituted by jia xiang, who looks a bit rusty having been out of the game for a while.

AL NINO has song bo in the lead. 1-0 with nba star breathing down his neck for the striker role, he must be feeling the heat. With the lead, songbo can now see more of the ball but patience is the word for us. With a throw in by kelvin down the right flank, nba star dun know how he do it but he manage to go pass 3 opponents before drilling in a low cross . tiger yan time his run but decided to draw the opponents away and created a clear chance for rooney who has been sneaking in from the back. The ball ended in the net 2-0 to song bo.

Finally the final whistle sound off. Its a hard fought victory for Songbo.

Songbo FC scraps out another 1-0 win

Songbo Fc is in a mini crisis. Once again SB started off the warm up session without a full 11 players on the pitch. SB squad is paper-thin. Players are divided between different commitments. (Basketball work gf and even duties). It is well rumored that a senior player claims to do duty despite doing duty the previous day. According to SAF standing order nobody is allowed to do consecutive duties. So I strongly suspect there are people who are playing around the system and using various excuses to miss matches.

In the mist of doing warm up Kelvin and Jackie turned up to the delight of the team. Firstly there are enough players for SB and secondly someone else is sponsoring the year end event. Before the game kick off kaicheng came, credit must be given to him for coming down despite commitments outside.

The whistle goes off as both team started off cautiously. Our weak midfield is never ever going to stamp authority in any match against half decent team. As the match went on the gulf between players shown as opponent had close to 70% procession. But SB uses their good organization to contain the opponent as they could not even master a shot at our star GK papa. Their No 8 had a bad day out in the field as he had to leave the pitch with a bloody **** head after Kenny came out better during a clash of head. To add wound to the injury Jeremy scored an easy goal for SB. His striker instinct put him at the right place to put the rebound back to the net after the GK spill an RJ shot that was straight at him. It was badly rumored that he did not dare to score when that someone is around and the goal sort of prove the rumor right.

The second half started off with rain pouring. The rain slow down both teams and concentration need to be at its maximum as vision is affected and bounce of the ball became unpredictable. But SB warriors stand strong and be counted. Every player plays their part in setting up a wall which the opponent never really overcome. OC Tan deserve special mention as he look like Dennis Irwin playing at left back. He looks like veteran in the left back position despite in the position less than 5 times. His lack of match fitness was not even seen. Kenny did a good job covering when the old guard was taken out. With such a decent backline SB would be a match for most of the team around. Once an again our teamwork understanding and organization prove too strong for a team who are technically much better than us. What different SB from others is that we have 10+ yrs of friendship behind us. This friendship is the key to all success.

HUAT AH!

**Special thanks for kaicheng who stand in the rain with the team and papa for being with us despite being late for work appointment.

(Pardon me for a lousy report as I am back in camp doing high key)

Things did not started out well for the songbo as early as 4 am. With only 11 players to take to the field against our opponents in 5 hours time, Rujia send out an SOS sms for the unwell Huiquan.

Still Huiquan who looks ok to me still came and offer his 15 min of services if needed. With no alternatives left, we decided to turn to yanshou for help who came dashing into the field 15 min into the game.

Still our captain decided to take to the field with only 10 players while waiting for our 11 player to arrive. With a morale boosting talk before the game, 110% percent effort is required from each and ever one of us to make up for the short fall of 1 players.

With the match underway, both teams started out very cautiously, trying to see the weakness and strength. Within 2 min into the game, songbo earns a throw-in on our right flank. Kelvin threw it to rujia at the edge of the penalty box who flick on the ball to a no mans area.

With the instinct of a natural poacher, sybian was the first to react to the ball. With a world class finishing that would even put torres to shame, the ball ended in the net. GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-0 TO SONG BO!!!!! One would find it strange as in why never was sybian put in a more attacking position to grab more goals for songbo.

Yanshou arrive shortly after that great goal by sybian. He jumped into action like a hungry tiger looking for fresh meat. However, it turns out to be what songbo detest …… COMPLANCY & LAID BACK. With a 1-0 lead and 11 vs 11, song bo decide to switch off their engine and let the opponents do what ever they want on the field.

Chances for songbo were place on the platter for us to increase the score line but they went begging. Jeremy with his new Luminous nike vapour ($299) was trying to be like a combine of torres and ronaldo… being fancy and place the ball anywhere but the net.

2nd half were no better but our defense manage to hold on to their task of keeping the opponents at bay. Huiquan eventually came on for Kenny who was exhausted towards the last 10 min of the game. Though he see little of the ball but manage to summon every ounce of his energy to defense our 1 goal lead score line. The final whistle goes off and so that ended songbo 5 game winless drought. Now we are surely back on track to pose more threat to other team.

1 main things that were brought up during the debrief was to do a warm down run of 3-5 rounds around the field. Partially to warm down and also for the GK and those with a big stomach to do some toning and most importantly be able to last long during the match in terms of concentration and stamina.

Last but not least hope sybian can get to be more in a attacking position as his goal average is about 1 goal per game. So the strikers better be on their guard…………

Lelong Lelong!!

After consultations with various religious leaders and fengshui masters, it seems that our Wonder boy's current boots clash with his Eight Characters, name, numerology and some even say hairstyle.. this is adversely affecting his goal scoring form.

Therefore, our Wonder boy wishes to offload his boots in order to purchase a new one.. the boots are relatively new..

Good FICO workout!

While waiting for my hair to dry, i have decide to do a post. I think most of us had an enjoyable and sweaty session! Good job guys!

Due to the big turnout, we have had to play 13 players in tht small pitch. Although this is bad news for dribblers like JX and ALAM, it also means that most of the time, our touches are very important. I believe each and every one of us have practised and learnt something from today's session.

Another issue is that of fine! We all know that the fine system was first implemented as a punishment for people like myself who likes to be late. I have no problems with the system because due to this, i have make efforts to be early although i am still one of the top contributor. Hahahaha!! Still, I think everyone would agree that this is fair to people who are always early. With regards to FICO sessions, this is especially important because we are paying for every min of the time we are late.

Now, I think that it is only fair to expect that some people who are late might have valid reasons like working late or other equally valid reasons. We have to take note that these sessions are mostly on weekdays and this is inevitable. However, I urge everyone to have self - responsibility and have their own integrity to own up and pay the fine if you are really late without any valid reasons. (Like Myself *winkz*)

Another thing is in future, I hope that team members can leave the responsibility of collecting of the fine to the CFO and the organiser. This is because, the organiser would be the one who knows who have informed him and he knows their reasons. He will be the one who determines who cannot be let off!! hahaha..... that way, we would not have awkward situations like today. However, if you feel you have been treated unfairly, there is always the CFO to share the decision making and as an appeal channel.

How does this sound??

Fine system for all Fico session

All players are suppose to reach Fico @ 850 sharp. Same rules as matches applies. Fine for every 5 mins block. This is to ensure everyone get a fair 1 hour playing time which they are paying for instead juz 50 mins. So pls arrive @ 10 mins B4 All fico sessions so as to ensure our money well spent on the pitch. As usual only valid reasons would be entertain the rest who are late be prepared to pay more. I hope this post is fair and does not have too many objections.

Clarifications for Payment of FICO sessions.

Alamak I dunno why I have to come up with this post lei. But i sense some distrust or bigger issues coming up into the team so I thought I as the originator better clarify things properly.

Guys, why you all so tensed up?

Fico sessions are organised in mid-week for the enjoyment and/or as a form of training regime. They are not the official event that team members must attend. Till date, it has always been a "who-free-who-come" and "who-come-who-pay" event!

In my original posts, I did make a statement that this coming event is COMPLUSORY. However, this was all done in the fun of innocent taunting and said in jest. The further red-coloured smallest font statement at the end of the post was an additional intention to persuade team members to attend the event if they can. There are no malicious intent and words shld not be taken too seriously here.

To clarify,

Payment has always been made by players who attended the FICO event. To date, I believe only a small amt(a few dollars i think (CFO verify pls) has been utilised from team funds due to some discrepencies in the calculations and/or ease of calculation.

For example, the final bill might turn up to be $123.88. hence, normally we just use $120 to be divided amongst the players and the $3.88 from team funds.

My statement of Capt sanctioning the event does not mean that the cost of the session will be divided by all in the team, with or without attendance. It just means that capt sanction the team funds to be used for the end figures.

So let's not think too far and relate that the funds are being misused here. This is dangerous territory lei....:)

So in summary, forget about the whole issue of "who did not come must also pay" bullshit by Papa Soh ok?
It has never been practised and will never be practised in the future.

Cheers!! :)

P.S: More common sense and sense of humour would have averted this issue altogether!

CFO Cleared of CPIB check

After a 3 hours lock up with intense grilling session with CPIB. They declare me a clean and upright person. I do have an aide that stays with me but no pay was given out. We do have a pet but its indeed a pet dog which needs low maintenance. I dun own any BMW and my assistance does not have any license. My aide does not own any credit card to mine account or company account. So I was let out clean.......

lastest fund update.

GRC fine for not bringing ball

Boon Lay $2 Last week

Individual Fine for being late for match

1. Kelvin $6
2. Rujia $4
3. Junbin $4
4. Kaicheng $4
5. Yanshou $4

Fine for not blogging

1. Rujia $2

Current Fund = (-1) old bal + $2 + $6 + $4 + $4 + $4 + $4 + $2

= $ 25

Fiscal responsibility

With all the scandals of missuse of funds and mis-collection of funds both local and abroad, I propose that our team fund be regulated, both IN and OUT. No single individual/GRC shld be able to disperse the funds nor impose fines arbitually. There shld be proper CHECK and BALANCE.

We are now starting to see cases where "events" are to be sponsored/ subsidised by the fund. How do we differentiate which ones are for the good of the team and which ones are not? Imposing fines shld be done when the majority of the team are agreeable since it affects everyone directly.

I propose that we need at least a member from each GRC to acknowledge that the event is worth subsidising/sponsoring and that we require a two-third majority in order to impose fines.

Just my two cents worth.

Match report

The match started with the opponents numbering 8 players nevertheless Songbo started with a full team. SB failed to make use of their numerical superiority and the game dragged on till the other opponents. Other hightlights of the first half included a dive from Papa Soh and a header goal from Capt Sparrow. HT: 1-0

2nd half started with a different goalie between the sticks. With RSM released out into the field, SB was hoping to add on to their goal tally but the teams mental strength is rapidly decreasing and SB pounded wave after wave. Finally, the opponents met a cross from the right and scores.

This Is it!!!

This is it!!! I am sick and tired of "smelly" players who always like to leave a boot or knee or arm behind in their tackles!!! They dun know that they are affecting an old man's movment and comfort for the following week!! Also, they think they are smart but they do not know they are dealing with PAPASOH!!!
Capt!! I am demanding that I can exact my revenge on the next funny player that comes along!!! When they try their niggling moves again, I swear I'll leave my studs in their balls so very hard and so very fast that they wun remember that they have balls in the first place!!!

This was a new team which, according to the referee, travelled all the way from the east to play here. There are only two possibilities: 1. They have conquered the eastern side of Singapore and are look for new challenges in our district. 2. They have suffered too many humiliating defeats that they must leave for greener pastures. The team did look to be more of the first possibility as they arrived late and started doing their warm-up.

It was also notable that this was the first time we tried out a variations of our warming-up routine, thanks to the great initiative by Ah Lam. The warm-up was beneficial though I personally found it quite tiring. But I’m sure the team had a proper workout before the match. Due to some commitments, Songbo only had 11 players for this match while Kelvin, the 12th man, had to come later due to family matters.

The match started on a very cautious note as the majority of Songbo players appeared to be giving the opponents too much respect than they deserve. The first half was patchy without any flowing football as both sides tried to stamp their authority on the match. However, it should be noted that the opponents were having the lion’s share of possession without any real penetration or threats. Indeed, the first goal came from the mistake of Songbo defence, as a floating corner was connected weakly one of the opponent’s central defenders but Songbo did not manage to clear their lines when given a chance. After a goalmouth melee, the opponent’s striker was left with the simplest of touches to put the ball in the back of the net. 1-0 to the opponents!

The rest of the first half passed by without any notable action as Capt Sparrow was constantly reminding the team not to give too much respect and the opponents were actually not as strong as they were thought to be. The half team talk was focused on getting the players to regain their confidence and recover from the slump of a three-match winless streak.

The second half began from where the first half ended, with patchy football and chances few and far between. However, it was evident that Songbo was determined to avoid defeat in this match as they started to show more sense of urgency in their tackles and movement. The opponents were being pegged into their own half and one mistake from their clearance put Mervin through down the right flank and with a swing of his boot, the ball landed perfectly onto the head of Wonder Boy and he duly equalized for the team. 1-1!

Heads up! The Songbo boys were fired up and they went in search of the winning goal. However, time was not their side as the clock ran out and the match ended in a stalemate.

Although this match should have been won on our more-confident days, the spirit displayed by the team in the second half was heartening. Post-match interviews revealed that Mervin was actually going for a shot with his supposed assist. Well, let’s hope that lady luck can shine on Songbo as we try our utmost to pull out from the worst slump since the Great Depression.

Cheers bros!

New Fine system

Players who are late for match would be fine with immediate effect

1. All players are supposed to be dressed up and be on the pitch @ 840 sharp
2. For every five mins block late there would be a $ 2 fine. (eg. Player 8 comes in @ 852am he would be fine $6)
3. The max fine cap for being late would be $10.
4. Players who could not make it for soccer matches last min would be fine $10.
5. All fines would be on an individual basis instead of car basis so if the whole car of ppl comes late then prepare to pay for own fine.

Balls for matches
Every GRC has been given 2 balls for matches pls ensure that every match we see 2 balls from each grc. Any GRC without 2 balls would be given a $2 fine for each ball not at the match.

Failure to ensure safety of jersey
1. There would be a $5 fine for players who did not account for their own jerseys.( both black and red)
2. All players are expected to bring both of jerseys to match. Failure to do so would lead to a fine of $5 per jersey.
3. This fine system would as the same as blog fine double up effect so 2nd time lose jersey would be $10

**The fine starts from immediate effect!

This team of opponent is a full malay team which we have played before and we won through yan’s au shiang pai acting skill, a penalty winner goal.

NBAStar has marked his return with a goal after missing out for a few matches. This goal plays important contribution to our coming back statistics. While SongBo was sinked down by 2 long shot for each of the half in the game..

The match started off brightly with SongBo attacking down the right and we have been pumping long ball inside to test the opponent’s defenses. However, they are able to contain the attacks. Jeremy also has missed a half chance one on one with the keeper. His confidence seems crawling away from him.

The first goal of the game came from a long shot which hit top right hand corner of the goal post. Yan was totally rooted to the ground. 0-1!! For the rest of the 1st half, nothing much exciting occurred.

During half time, Captain Sparrow has given us some team talks, questioning out mental weakness as well as our abilities to lift up for the team’s morale. Mervin was subbed to allow NBAStar to come in.

AT the start of the 2nd Half, tried to play positively and while beginning to see some improvement.. the opponent’s right back has unleashed another long and powerful shot which left our PapSoh no chance as well. 0-2!!

After this goal, both team started to make some substitutions. Huang is making way for Rujia with Tan shifting to left back, Alvin taking left winger and Captain taking control of the Midfield. This formation has made Songbo, more offensive and more threatening to the opponent defenses. SongBo potential comeback goal has came through the NBAStar, which hitted the under side of the bar. Great goal 1-2!!

SongBo contine to keep pressing for 2nd goal but to no prevail.. Soon the whistle was blowed. 2 Consecutive lost for SB.. Time to do some soul searching for SB..

Project Update 3

Time for another quick update on the progress of our photobook. So far we have amassed quite a number of photos (many interesting ones too...hmm...I wonder which ones will make it to the print) and we are in the midst of narrowing down the photos to use as well as the design of the photobook itself.

Speaking about design, as you guys know we will be coming up with a Songbo FC emblem as well as a mascot. So what's the difference between a mascot and an emblem? An emblem will be like the Man Utd and Liverpool badges that we are so familiar with. A mascot would be the guy wearing the red devil costume taking photos with kids around the stadium. As we have already revealed, our mascot will be a bulldog (no plans for a costume though). Below are 2 pictures to illustrate what I meant.

Example of a Mascot

Example of an Emblem

Yan have took the liberty to do a quick sourcing of the price to print such photobooks and we are getting prices of around $30 for an A4-sized 20 pages, soft cover booklet, with an option to add 2 pages for around $2. If you take away a few pages for introductory text and other misc stuff, we would be left with around 16 pages. That would be able to hold roughly 60+ pictures if we squeeze in 4 pictures on every page. With the current count of selected pictures at the 90+ mark, not inclusive of the late 2008 to 2009 pictures I have yet to go through, it does not take long to guess we have to either fork out a substantial amount for the book or drastically reduce our number of pictures to print.

Taking these into consideration, we have decided that the photobook is to be focused on the Songbo FC soccer team instead of being a "15th Year Anniversary" photobook for most of us. This means that the retro photos from our sec sch days will only be included in digital format in the DVD to be included with the book. With that, I have put up a survey as well to have a general feel of how much we are willing to pay for this, taking into consideration that it would be a one-off memorable to commemorate our 15th Anniversary. Please leave comments about this if you have any as we have plenty of room for discussion.

Match 113 - Lost

Songbo FC 1:2 Opponents

Date: 12th Jul 2009
Venue: Westwood Sec Sch
Jersey: Red

Starting Line-Up:
Junbing(GK), H.Weijie(LB), Kenny(CB), Suichao(CB), Kaiseng(RB), Hweequan(DM), T.Weijie(LM), Alvin Cai (CM), Yanshou(AM), Mervin(RM), Jeremy(ST)

The opponents are a group of indians and the half started with them gaining most of the possession. They have great technique and the composure of passing around which Songbo team lack of. Their defense is also of no nonsense type so our team had little chance of attacking. But their attack could not penetrate our defense so the 1st half ended in a stale-mate.

During the break, there is a change in our team formation. Our captain for Mervin, and kelvin for Seng, who was injured in the 1st half. Yan was sent to the right mid while Rujia took up his place in the attacking mid.

Songbo's only goal came when a shot from Jeremy was blocked by the opponent. The ball luckily and accurately land in front of our captain, who easily tap the ball into the bottom corner of the goalpost with his left foot, leaving the keeper rooted to the ground. 1-0.

The equalizer of the opponent came when Chao allow their winger to run past him. Though he almost manage to cach him back, the winger make a good low cross to their forward, who make a shot to the right of the goal post. Sources claim that our goalkeeper would have save the ball, if not for the sandy pitch below him, causing him to slip while he was trying to dive the opposite direction. 1-1.

The opponents almost scored another when they manage to make a fast counter attack, leaving Kenny and their forward running. The opponent manage to fake past Kenny and make a shot but a superb save from Junbing prevented the opponents from leading.

The winning goal came when Huang slipped a clearance and the ball bounces back. While trying to clear the ball, Kenny scaled the ball the allow the ball to travelled nearer to the goalpost. The opponent took the chance and lob the ball over Junbing who was coming out to intercept. 1-2.

Although leading from behind, Songbo press the line up and keep the pressure on the opponents.
Chances are still little but they are not going to just give up to the opponents. But luck is not on Songbo's side this time. The refree blow for the final whistle after attacks on the opponent are just not going in.

Another sunny Sunday, and Songbo FC is back at Fuhua Sec to face the same old opponent when had defeated Songbo FC on their previous two encounter.
Today's line-up wasnt the strongest without the like of Looney and NBA star, but the team is still strong with a good pool of players that they have. CPT Sparrow cheer the team by mentioning our 6 game winning streaks and Songbo is on a high to face this difficult foe.

The match started with Papa Soh starting as our lone striker and Tiger Yan in btw the posts. It didnt take long for Songbo to settle down into the game. Much of the game was played in the midfield with Huiquan and Alvin destroying every attacking move of the opponent. Our defence is also up to the job, whenever called upon for, less a moment of lack of concentration by C-cup when he miscue a clearance, giving the opponent a chance to nip in, luckily Tiger is there to provide enough pressure and the opponent put his shot wide. This makes us wonder, how far has C-cup beeing writing his "LESSON PLAN".

The first break of the match come from a mazzy dribble by Alvin, where he put the ball into the oppent 6 yard box. Lusty Seng, from left back position, amke a great overlapping run + diagonal run into the penalty box, he brought down the ball, and with a awarkard angle, he volleyed the back into the back of the net. Songbo leads by one goal to nil.

The rest of the first half saw Papa Soh with a couple of chance, but seems that he keep holding on to the ball, maybe he is waiting for Kiranjeet to tackle him. CPT Sparrow also have a couple of half chances. THe first half ended with Songbo leading 1 - 0.

THe second half started with Songbo making a change, where Man Tou sub for Jia Xiang. Rusty Man Tou is simply playing badly. His gets frustrated with his game, and give the referee a good F***, (the referee does deserve to be F*** given his amature display). MAn Tou was awarded a yellow card for the crush with the referee. Before long, we had Man Tou in the limelight again. He work rate and commitment is just top notch, but no his tackles. The first tackle is good winning the ball, however, the opponent get back the ball and Man Tou immmediately jump in with a two footed tackle taking both the ball and the opponent. Beep. a free kick is awarded. but luckily not red card award, maybe due to referee fear of the raging Man Tou.

Project Update 2

Guys, it's almost time for the weekend again so I thought it would be an appropriate time to update on our progress. Up to now, we have a bit of an opinion of our logo, which Design 4 has most of the votes and our own designer has came up with Design 2a. Over some discussions, we might be aiming for 2 designs instead; 1, a mascot, which is the bulldog design we have seen so far and another, an emblem, which looks better as a "footballing logo" so as to speak. More details to come as we settle on this.

More urgently, is the photo contribution which is lacking thus far. I have seen only a handful of contributions (for those who have contributed, thanks) with over 90% of the pictures from Yanshou who understandably has taken quite a lot of pics. However, I am quite sure you guys have more photos that we can use. It does not matter whether they are in soft or hard copy. Just pass them to Kenny and we will do the necessary. So go dig up all those old photos that you might have. (It might be lying with those photos of you and your ex...and we have a couple of them. To protect the innocent we will "try" not to include those photos in the photobook unless necessary.) If possible, please pass them to Kenny this coming weekend.

For future usage as well as for the first few pages of the photobook, I would like to take a profile picture of everyone in the team wearing either the red/black jersey, starting this weekend if possible. Yan, remember to bring the camera this weekend. And we haven't took a team photo wearing the black jersey as well.

P.S. With the weekend approaching, where's last week's report? Anyway, Chaos, is it possible we get a snapshot of our stats this season? It's been a long long time since we had one...

After 5 weeks of “fresh blood”, this week’s opponent is an “old blood”. One that we have battered for quite a few matches already. The stats are in favour of us as out of all the encounters, we came out victorious with only a draw. However, this won’t be an easy fight due to the vast amount of experiences the opponents have. This match also boosts the return of our much-miss captain. Whose “unfortunate incident” took quite a toll and rendered him unfit for the past few matches. However, we’ll be missing veterans Sybian and Yan due to “other commitments”. They’re total contribution of 9 goals in 6 games is something that the team will miss badly. The tactics we’re adopting for today will be “finish them early, score as much goals as we can. Defend well”.

The first half started off normally, with both teams having the fair share of the possession. The first goal came sort of unexpectedly. Their goalkeeper made a short pass to the last man, Jiaxiang went forward to exert pressure and managed to pry the ball of him. Taking the ball to the byline, he made a low cross to the center, hoping for someone to made contact with it. There came “Ronaldo”, who’s back from Taiwan and is on a goal drought for 2yrs! An easy tap in for him. 1-0.

In the search of a 2nd goal, our team made a costly mistake by letting their wingers run down to their frank and makes a dangerous cross to the far pole. Another easy tap-in, not for us, but for the opponents. 1-1.

Even though 0-0 and 1-1 looks similar, the effect it have on the team is very different. Morales are low as compared to the start of the match. Sensing the team spirit is decreasing as time goes by, our captain decided to take things into his own hands and wave a few magic of his own. A throw in from the side line, cool control with his legs, he hit the ball with a sliding tackle move that caught their keeper unaware. Thought he managed to parry it, the ball fall into the path of Jiaxiang, who wasted no time to slot the ball into the back of the net. 2-1. One goal difference isn’t enough, that’s what our captain thought. Thus, with the same throw in from the side lines, instead of trapping the ball down, he made a first time half volley. It was executed nicely, as the ball was directed to the bottom left corner. 3-1.

3-1 was the half-time score line. Captain reminded us again that we should not be complacent as letting in a goal will put our team under serious pressure. The opponent share similar thoughts too, as the 2nd half opened up with them attacking furiously. Thought the defence is holding up well, but still, the goal came. It was an utterly crappy goal. A clearly by Junbing was unlucky to have hit the opponent and landed in front of an empty goal. The on rushing H.Weijie was unable to stop the fellow up from their striker to, for the 3rd time in match, tap the ball into an empty net. 3-2.

Like what our captain has predicted. Sensing that a draw or even a win is possible now, the opponents step up another level. Wave upon wave of attacked followed. But thankfully, the defence and midfield all done their job well enough to keep the danger out. At this time, knowing that he’ll need to take out his magic dust out again to ease the pressure off the team. Our captain once again show us why he’s the captain. Chesting the ball down from a throw in, he flick the ball off a on rushing keeper. With the keeper to beat only, he “calmly/hengly/tai-ko-ly” chip the ball over him. 4-2. Pressure’s off !!

With all hopes dashed, the opponent conceded the match and it’s a 6th consecutive win for Songbo !! History in the making !! 2 goals and 1 assist is a very satisfying way to welcome our ever-prominent captain back from his absence. Huat ah ~~ !!

Cheers,

Project Update

As you guys know, we have embarked on a project to produce a photobook for our 15th Anniversary. As scheduled, the project will start full swing very soon. As such, we require the help of all our members to share their photos (hard of soft copy) of our group from past till present. Please pass them to Kenny during our weekend soccer sessions or other opportunities that you deem fit. We hope to get as many pictures as possible to make this photobook a success. The collection starts now and will last till the first week of July.

As part of this photobook project, we are also proposing to have a team logo. I think it is about time we have one. I was discussing with Kenny and Yan the other day about using an animal to represent our team. It seems that we have narrowed it down to a dog, a bulldog specifically, since most of us in the team and born in the year of the dog. A bulldog also represents fighting spirit, aggression and toughness. Thus, below are a few early designs that are made from using the bulldog concept. Please let us know what you think.

Design 1

Design 2

Design 3

Design 4

If you think the above logos are a bit too serious we can always have...

Design 5

Design 2a

Please note that these are just preliminary design and are welcomed to changes. We just want to have the general opinion of whether the team is approving for the logo to head in this direction. Please feel free to comment. Thanks. And remember about the contribution of photos.

See that scoreline? Well, it means Songbo met up with a weak team that day. Comprising of a group of Malay uncles, we never let our guards down before kick off. Though they played some diplomacy skills such as taking photo together, Songbo never fall for it.

Minutes after kick off, Songbo was well in control of the game, with a cross from Jackie to the far post for Mervin, Mervin selflessly squared back to Sabian to score from 6 yards, but this NBA star missed the ball and luckily Tiger Yan was just behind him to teach him wat is finishing. 1-0 to Songbo!

Within minutes, our ever-consistent Ah Lam, dribble past 3 defenders from the right flank into their penalty area, he kept the ball away from the defenders and squared a low pass to Tiger Yan for a tap-in to an empty net. 2-0 to Songbo!

The Malay uncles never recovered from the setback, and a counter attack from Songbo saw Sabian running clear from a thru pass by Mervin and he outrun the defenders, past the keeper n score the empty net. 3-0 to Songbo!

As usual, Songbo let their guards down after taking the lead. A corner from the opponents which seems like a usual catch by PapaSoh, turned disastrous as he was claimed to be pushed by the opponent n result him pushing the ball into his own net. Thief Huang tried to utilize his ever famous badminton skill n smack the ball out of the line….but luckily he did not do it. 3-1 !

Upon kickoff, Sabian was simply in dreamland, kicking the ball so light that the opponent instantly intercept. Though the attack was neutralized but it was an attack on the morale of Songbo.

Half –time teamtalk. Captain Sparrow re-emphasised on killing the game off n not be complacent. Minutes after kick off, Songbo regained the supremacy on the field, a thru pass by Kelvin met Sabian, whom mis-kicked n turned out to be like a pass to Mervin to tap-in another empty net….he did not mis-kicked the ball, jus tat the ball went the other way. “Waa…Fuck !@#$%...” can be heard from Captain Sparrow after the miss, and Songbo cannot afford to miss another chance.

Malay uncles played their line very high but they are not ready for us. A throw in by Kelvin to Sabian, provided another 1 to 1 chance with the keeper and this time he struck the ball well and scored his second goal. 4-1 to Songbo!

Not long later, a similar throw in by Jackie to Tiger Yan, saw him latches onto the loose ball and placed into the bottom corner of the goal. 5-1 to Songbo! Tiger Yan completed his first ever hat-trick in his career.

OK….here comes the main Highlight of the match which was specially instructed to be covered by Captain Sparrow. A Tiger Yan with no hunger, latches a low thru pass by Jackie, he dribble past the GK, but god damn it….the keeper had a trailing leg on his right foot and he loses his momentumn. Hearing no whistle blow from the referee, Tiger was pissed n defenders had caught up on him. He has no angle to shoot and can only shield the ball away from the defenders n GK. Reckless tackle by the defender steal his ball away from his feet…and to cover up his inability, he decided to gamble and dive for a foul.

Guess wat….his acting SUCKS! Not only he can’t fool that old man, his teammates were disgraced of his actions. Morale of the story…..never do something you are not confident of. So what Tiger Yan score a hattrick….everyone only remember his dive. And he is being forced to write a paragraph on it. Wat is the world coming to? “You can do whatever you want”

Back to game highlight, Mervin n Henpecked Quan went off for Captain Sparrow and Goal machine Jeremy. Tiger Yan on for PapaSoh. Papasoh scored the 6th goal of the game, when he tried to cross the ball to Jeremy from the right edge of the penalty area. His cross went offward and luckily it went into the net. 6-1 to Songbo! Ending of the match saw Jackie shooting some weak balls to the GK, which does not require a drop of sweat for him to catch. Another match ended with Jackie failing again to score against a weak team.

2 straight games against 2 weak Malay teams. We have to keep reminding ourselves we are not playing to our best and cannot afford to be complacent. But dun worry…if there’s problem along the way, Tiger is there to save the day!
