This Is it!!!

This is it!!! I am sick and tired of "smelly" players who always like to leave a boot or knee or arm behind in their tackles!!! They dun know that they are affecting an old man's movment and comfort for the following week!! Also, they think they are smart but they do not know they are dealing with PAPASOH!!!
Capt!! I am demanding that I can exact my revenge on the next funny player that comes along!!! When they try their niggling moves again, I swear I'll leave my studs in their balls so very hard and so very fast that they wun remember that they have balls in the first place!!!

This was a new team which, according to the referee, travelled all the way from the east to play here. There are only two possibilities: 1. They have conquered the eastern side of Singapore and are look for new challenges in our district. 2. They have suffered too many humiliating defeats that they must leave for greener pastures. The team did look to be more of the first possibility as they arrived late and started doing their warm-up.

It was also notable that this was the first time we tried out a variations of our warming-up routine, thanks to the great initiative by Ah Lam. The warm-up was beneficial though I personally found it quite tiring. But I’m sure the team had a proper workout before the match. Due to some commitments, Songbo only had 11 players for this match while Kelvin, the 12th man, had to come later due to family matters.

The match started on a very cautious note as the majority of Songbo players appeared to be giving the opponents too much respect than they deserve. The first half was patchy without any flowing football as both sides tried to stamp their authority on the match. However, it should be noted that the opponents were having the lion’s share of possession without any real penetration or threats. Indeed, the first goal came from the mistake of Songbo defence, as a floating corner was connected weakly one of the opponent’s central defenders but Songbo did not manage to clear their lines when given a chance. After a goalmouth melee, the opponent’s striker was left with the simplest of touches to put the ball in the back of the net. 1-0 to the opponents!

The rest of the first half passed by without any notable action as Capt Sparrow was constantly reminding the team not to give too much respect and the opponents were actually not as strong as they were thought to be. The half team talk was focused on getting the players to regain their confidence and recover from the slump of a three-match winless streak.

The second half began from where the first half ended, with patchy football and chances few and far between. However, it was evident that Songbo was determined to avoid defeat in this match as they started to show more sense of urgency in their tackles and movement. The opponents were being pegged into their own half and one mistake from their clearance put Mervin through down the right flank and with a swing of his boot, the ball landed perfectly onto the head of Wonder Boy and he duly equalized for the team. 1-1!

Heads up! The Songbo boys were fired up and they went in search of the winning goal. However, time was not their side as the clock ran out and the match ended in a stalemate.

Although this match should have been won on our more-confident days, the spirit displayed by the team in the second half was heartening. Post-match interviews revealed that Mervin was actually going for a shot with his supposed assist. Well, let’s hope that lady luck can shine on Songbo as we try our utmost to pull out from the worst slump since the Great Depression.

Cheers bros!

This team of opponent is a full malay team which we have played before and we won through yan’s au shiang pai acting skill, a penalty winner goal.

NBAStar has marked his return with a goal after missing out for a few matches. This goal plays important contribution to our coming back statistics. While SongBo was sinked down by 2 long shot for each of the half in the game..

The match started off brightly with SongBo attacking down the right and we have been pumping long ball inside to test the opponent’s defenses. However, they are able to contain the attacks. Jeremy also has missed a half chance one on one with the keeper. His confidence seems crawling away from him.

The first goal of the game came from a long shot which hit top right hand corner of the goal post. Yan was totally rooted to the ground. 0-1!! For the rest of the 1st half, nothing much exciting occurred.

During half time, Captain Sparrow has given us some team talks, questioning out mental weakness as well as our abilities to lift up for the team’s morale. Mervin was subbed to allow NBAStar to come in.

AT the start of the 2nd Half, tried to play positively and while beginning to see some improvement.. the opponent’s right back has unleashed another long and powerful shot which left our PapSoh no chance as well. 0-2!!

After this goal, both team started to make some substitutions. Huang is making way for Rujia with Tan shifting to left back, Alvin taking left winger and Captain taking control of the Midfield. This formation has made Songbo, more offensive and more threatening to the opponent defenses. SongBo potential comeback goal has came through the NBAStar, which hitted the under side of the bar. Great goal 1-2!!

SongBo contine to keep pressing for 2nd goal but to no prevail.. Soon the whistle was blowed. 2 Consecutive lost for SB.. Time to do some soul searching for SB..

Project Update 3

Time for another quick update on the progress of our photobook. So far we have amassed quite a number of photos (many interesting ones too...hmm...I wonder which ones will make it to the print) and we are in the midst of narrowing down the photos to use as well as the design of the photobook itself.

Speaking about design, as you guys know we will be coming up with a Songbo FC emblem as well as a mascot. So what's the difference between a mascot and an emblem? An emblem will be like the Man Utd and Liverpool badges that we are so familiar with. A mascot would be the guy wearing the red devil costume taking photos with kids around the stadium. As we have already revealed, our mascot will be a bulldog (no plans for a costume though). Below are 2 pictures to illustrate what I meant.

Example of a Mascot

Example of an Emblem

Yan have took the liberty to do a quick sourcing of the price to print such photobooks and we are getting prices of around $30 for an A4-sized 20 pages, soft cover booklet, with an option to add 2 pages for around $2. If you take away a few pages for introductory text and other misc stuff, we would be left with around 16 pages. That would be able to hold roughly 60+ pictures if we squeeze in 4 pictures on every page. With the current count of selected pictures at the 90+ mark, not inclusive of the late 2008 to 2009 pictures I have yet to go through, it does not take long to guess we have to either fork out a substantial amount for the book or drastically reduce our number of pictures to print.

Taking these into consideration, we have decided that the photobook is to be focused on the Songbo FC soccer team instead of being a "15th Year Anniversary" photobook for most of us. This means that the retro photos from our sec sch days will only be included in digital format in the DVD to be included with the book. With that, I have put up a survey as well to have a general feel of how much we are willing to pay for this, taking into consideration that it would be a one-off memorable to commemorate our 15th Anniversary. Please leave comments about this if you have any as we have plenty of room for discussion.

Match 113 - Lost

Songbo FC 1:2 Opponents

Date: 12th Jul 2009
Venue: Westwood Sec Sch
Jersey: Red

Starting Line-Up:
Junbing(GK), H.Weijie(LB), Kenny(CB), Suichao(CB), Kaiseng(RB), Hweequan(DM), T.Weijie(LM), Alvin Cai (CM), Yanshou(AM), Mervin(RM), Jeremy(ST)

FT: 1-2

The opponents are a group of indians and the half started with them gaining most of the possession. They have great technique and the composure of passing around which Songbo team lack of. Their defense is also of no nonsense type so our team had little chance of attacking. But their attack could not penetrate our defense so the 1st half ended in a stale-mate.

During the break, there is a change in our team formation. Our captain for Mervin, and kelvin for Seng, who was injured in the 1st half. Yan was sent to the right mid while Rujia took up his place in the attacking mid.

Songbo's only goal came when a shot from Jeremy was blocked by the opponent. The ball luckily and accurately land in front of our captain, who easily tap the ball into the bottom corner of the goalpost with his left foot, leaving the keeper rooted to the ground. 1-0.

The equalizer of the opponent came when Chao allow their winger to run past him. Though he almost manage to cach him back, the winger make a good low cross to their forward, who make a shot to the right of the goal post. Sources claim that our goalkeeper would have save the ball, if not for the sandy pitch below him, causing him to slip while he was trying to dive the opposite direction. 1-1.

The opponents almost scored another when they manage to make a fast counter attack, leaving Kenny and their forward running. The opponent manage to fake past Kenny and make a shot but a superb save from Junbing prevented the opponents from leading.

The winning goal came when Huang slipped a clearance and the ball bounces back. While trying to clear the ball, Kenny scaled the ball the allow the ball to travelled nearer to the goalpost. The opponent took the chance and lob the ball over Junbing who was coming out to intercept. 1-2.

Although leading from behind, Songbo press the line up and keep the pressure on the opponents.
Chances are still little but they are not going to just give up to the opponents. But luck is not on Songbo's side this time. The refree blow for the final whistle after attacks on the opponent are just not going in.

Another sunny Sunday, and Songbo FC is back at Fuhua Sec to face the same old opponent when had defeated Songbo FC on their previous two encounter.
Today's line-up wasnt the strongest without the like of Looney and NBA star, but the team is still strong with a good pool of players that they have. CPT Sparrow cheer the team by mentioning our 6 game winning streaks and Songbo is on a high to face this difficult foe.

The match started with Papa Soh starting as our lone striker and Tiger Yan in btw the posts. It didnt take long for Songbo to settle down into the game. Much of the game was played in the midfield with Huiquan and Alvin destroying every attacking move of the opponent. Our defence is also up to the job, whenever called upon for, less a moment of lack of concentration by C-cup when he miscue a clearance, giving the opponent a chance to nip in, luckily Tiger is there to provide enough pressure and the opponent put his shot wide. This makes us wonder, how far has C-cup beeing writing his "LESSON PLAN".

The first break of the match come from a mazzy dribble by Alvin, where he put the ball into the oppent 6 yard box. Lusty Seng, from left back position, amke a great overlapping run + diagonal run into the penalty box, he brought down the ball, and with a awarkard angle, he volleyed the back into the back of the net. Songbo leads by one goal to nil.

The rest of the first half saw Papa Soh with a couple of chance, but seems that he keep holding on to the ball, maybe he is waiting for Kiranjeet to tackle him. CPT Sparrow also have a couple of half chances. THe first half ended with Songbo leading 1 - 0.

THe second half started with Songbo making a change, where Man Tou sub for Jia Xiang. Rusty Man Tou is simply playing badly. His gets frustrated with his game, and give the referee a good F***, (the referee does deserve to be F*** given his amature display). MAn Tou was awarded a yellow card for the crush with the referee. Before long, we had Man Tou in the limelight again. He work rate and commitment is just top notch, but no his tackles. The first tackle is good winning the ball, however, the opponent get back the ball and Man Tou immmediately jump in with a two footed tackle taking both the ball and the opponent. Beep. a free kick is awarded. but luckily not red card award, maybe due to referee fear of the raging Man Tou.

Project Update 2

Guys, it's almost time for the weekend again so I thought it would be an appropriate time to update on our progress. Up to now, we have a bit of an opinion of our logo, which Design 4 has most of the votes and our own designer has came up with Design 2a. Over some discussions, we might be aiming for 2 designs instead; 1, a mascot, which is the bulldog design we have seen so far and another, an emblem, which looks better as a "footballing logo" so as to speak. More details to come as we settle on this.

More urgently, is the photo contribution which is lacking thus far. I have seen only a handful of contributions (for those who have contributed, thanks) with over 90% of the pictures from Yanshou who understandably has taken quite a lot of pics. However, I am quite sure you guys have more photos that we can use. It does not matter whether they are in soft or hard copy. Just pass them to Kenny and we will do the necessary. So go dig up all those old photos that you might have. (It might be lying with those photos of you and your ex...and we have a couple of them. To protect the innocent we will "try" not to include those photos in the photobook unless necessary.) If possible, please pass them to Kenny this coming weekend.

For future usage as well as for the first few pages of the photobook, I would like to take a profile picture of everyone in the team wearing either the red/black jersey, starting this weekend if possible. Yan, remember to bring the camera this weekend. And we haven't took a team photo wearing the black jersey as well.

P.S. With the weekend approaching, where's last week's report? Anyway, Chaos, is it possible we get a snapshot of our stats this season? It's been a long long time since we had one...
