One of the more possible reason discussed was that maybe our weekend soccer sessions no longer provided the kind of thrill that we got from it - when we first ventured from court soccer to the field. It has become something like a mundane chore that we wake up to on every Sunday morning. Without the passion and the competitive spirit that has kept us going in our early years, it has directly affected our performances recently - maybe also due to our falling testosterone????
After some casual analysis, the idea to stop this rot would be to give everyone a focus, an aim for the season - joining a competitive league!
We have in fact, a few seasons back, toyed with this idea but it was put off due to financial constraints and the transition from studies to work.
Now is the time!!!!
Pros
- We have something to aim for.
- It can still be played on Sunday mornings.
- There is not much additional costs to us. About the same as what we pay now.
- We can have more unity and cooperation in the team when we unite to fight for somthing.
- Players like jacky(pun intended) will find motivation to play to his best every week.
- We will get a taste of competitive football at last once in our lifetime before our bones and tissues cracks easily.(In fact, some of our bodies are already decaying!!!!)
Cons
- Because its competitive, we cannot afford to have just enough 11 players on matchday - like some of our matches - so there will be a slight influx of players to the squad to counter this problem.
- Players like papasoh cannot always kaobei kaobu anymore say want to come play outfield because we need the best of our players to be in every position.
- We might need team members to have an additional session of FICO or something for training purposes. Fico, because its trains your everything - stamina, agility, technique, passing etc. Its like a all in one training for us.

I feel the dip in standard is just temporary. We will bounce back and regain the passion soon once that bad patch is over.
Unless we can say we are sick of winning opponents in the West, i tink the competitive soccer has to wait.
The good thing is i can still feel Passion in most of our guys.
Yes...you are right in a way.
Our consideration is that if we do not atttempt to play soon, we will be past our prime soon. most of our bodies are beginning to have niggling injuries here and there.
I doubt we will want to play competitive if we are nearer to our 30s...that time, our injuries will take longer to heal and we will not have the psychological strength to play liao...further more, in 2-3 yrs time, i think a few more of our guys will be settled down and might have kids....so that's another consideration liao...anyway lets wait and see other comments...we've got a whole year to decide anyway...no rush... hahaha
I paid a visit to the website of the league and all I can say is...wow. Seems like the standards there is pretty high with ex-professionals and upcoming professionals in the league as well. Are we there yet? I think participation in competitively leagues will definitely be a good experience. However, judging from our results this year, my humble opinion is that we still have a little more to go before we can be ready for a league of such standards.
I don't doubt the abilities of our members in our teams. However, I feel that we still need to improve for many of us; be it on the technical or mentality side of things. Perhaps we should use the rest of the year as a gauge to see whether we can rise up to the standards of the league. We should aim to give our all and win every match from now on...which we should be doing anyway.
Dun worry about that!
if you spend more time reading, you will find that new teams ARE REQUIRED to play a few trIal matches and they will then gaUge our standards and put us in a league that is comparable to our standards...So we will be playing competitive games week in and week out with teams around our standards...not like one week we win 5-0 then the next we lose 6-0 kind of league..
So this means we will not be playing against the likes of ex internationals and the i doubt we have the possibilty even in 5 years time...hahahaha....
There's a promotion and relegation system..so that's interesting!!
As of the Jan-July period, there's a total of 11 leagues (sunday) with 8 teams in each league.
1.) Half-year season - Jan - july or Aug - Dec
2.) total of 14 games per season.
3.) Match Fees (150)
there r a lot of 'divisions' so most of the so called pro teams should be at the top divisions. i played for my friend's team (which we played with and won) in the league b4 so not all teams r tha pro lah. So if everyone can commit i think we can give a try
some things to take note is that everyone must have shin guards on and a report(short one will do) to be uploaded to their site...
I was an advocate to join the league previously, but now I think it's good enough to stay status quo. The main objective is to stay together, play and have fun, regardless of the results.
The dip in form is temporary, which I believe will improve soon.
To digress, even if we are not to join the league, it is not because we are not good enough. I believe we are and if when thrown into the deep end, we will only improve.
To reiterate, we should remain as we are. Enjoying our Sunday kickabout, maintaining the bonds and camaradie are most important.
My main concern is the overall commitment of the whole team for playing a competitive league. As of now we are still treat sunday soccer as one form of gathering, play hard, excercise and enjoy suaning each other after matches. But will we still have the same feeling & enjoyment when we join a competitive matches??
Another pt is the depth of our team. In some matches, we even have difficulty getting 11 ppl. We need to guarantee at least 14-15 ppl (my opinion) available for each match before consider a competitive one as well.
Once we sorted out this 2 main issue, then I think we will be ready for it.
Budget wise shldn't be a prob since we are all working.
As for stanard wise at most we play from the lowest one. I dun think most of the ppl will not mind that as well.
Seng
After reading all the posts, I have to agree that the depth of our squad, like what Seng said, would be the main problem. Perhaps an influx of players to our team like what Junbing mentioned?
Actually, if all our players are fit (IF), we have a squad of 17 to choose from. Not a bad figure actually...
Yeah, thanks for the responses!! Maybe we will have a meeting after our match this sunday...we have a lot of time till next season...so dun worry we have time to listen to everyone's interests and opinions.....
maybe we can even start with letting one friend each join us for each sunday games like a form of trial....then we slowly vote on the player our team needs...that way we can strengthen but still anjoy games and be prepared for the future!!!!
what's important is that when we do anything, we do it together!!!! HUAT AH!!
