Match 29 - Win

Ok guys, this is the first post for our Blog. I think a Blog will be suitable for posting our exploits on the field for each match. Therefore, I will post match reports here as well as full statistics that I have for the team. Please check back to this page for the latest happenings for SongBo FC.

Match Report - Match 29 (Lineup: Junbing, Kaiseng, Kenny, Suichao, Huang Weijie, Sybian, Yanshou, Rujia, Jackie, Alvin Cai, Kelvin. Subs: Mervin, Aaron)

The match started brightly with the skies looking a little cloudy but the pitch was good and the players were lively. I arrived just in time to hear the starting whistle go off from the referee. Our opponents were a team we lost not long ago; 2 games ago in fact, with a scoreline of 3-4. This game promised to be a game full of goals it seemed again. However, the opponent didn't have the abundance of substitutions they had the last time round.

Gears were slow to click in the beginning, as both sides squandered chances and mistakes were commited by both sides. As the game progressed, SongBo FC clearly had the upper hand as chances went begging after some good buildup by the team. However, it was rewarded when Jackie had a good strike from a free kick just outside of the area and buried it at the back of the net. 1-0 SongBo FC.

It was then rain clouds started to form and without warning, precipitation started to fall from the sky. With the drizzle, players started showing signs of misinterpretion of passes, miscontrol of passes and the occasional slips on the pitch. It was this condition that allowed SongBo FC to score their second goal. After some good work by Jackie down the right flank, he whipped in a low cross which evaded everyone except Rujia, who took it on his right to secure a 2 goal cushion before the break.

By the time the half time whistle had gone, the drizzle had turned into a pour. Both sides were relieved to hear the whistle to take a break from the torrid weather. The half time talk from SongBo FC captain Rujia had a strong and distinct message; go in hard for the ball, go for the kill. Making 1 switch which saw Mervin replacing H.Weijie to take up his usual position on the right flank, SongBo FC headed into the 2nd half with a purpose.

Thankfully, the rain had been weathered down to a mere light drizzle. The pitch, however, was still in a bad aftermath caused by the rain. Both teams were unfazed as they both still had a part to play in the match. Any hopes of getting back in the game were dashed for the opponents as Kelvin was there to poach the 3rd goal when a shot deflected by the keeper came his way. From that range, he made no mistake for his 3rd goal in 5 games.

As the lead was stretched, Rujia commanded the team to slow down the pace and to play more intelligently. Mervin, fresh from the bench, had other ideas as he wandered forward time and time again. It proved fruitful as he took a well placed shot to the keeper's right to make the score 4-0.

The opponents' spirits were down after suffering from a 4 goal deficit but SongBo FC's captain had no intention to play the nice guy. Exploiting the space the opponent gave him in the middle of the park, he went on to plough 2 more goals; 1 with a well taken shot that would have beaten any keeper, and another strike which had to be attributed to luck when the keeper failed to catch hold of it to allow Rujia to complete his hat trick. With 4 goals in his last 2 games, it is certainly hard to imagine Rujia once had a 15 game goal drought.

The game could have ended 7-0 or 8-0 as Junbing saw a good header came off the post and Alvin squandering a couple of chances. It was all smiles for the team which celebrated a clean sheet and their biggest win since an identical 6-0 scoreline which came last year on Match 19. A good showing from the team that only lost once in their last 10 games, but not one that they could not improve on, especially in certain areas of defence and attack.

To sum it all up, to quote the Man-of-the-Match today, don't mess with a guy who has fallen out of love.

Score Summary: 6 - 0 (Jackie x 1; Rujia x 3; Kelvin x 1; Mervin x 1) HT: 2-0

Hope everyone remember this match which we display some true hunger and killing instinct to our opponents. Though the opponents are Ba Ka, but hopefully we can keep this spirit up when against even tougher opponents. Go gym bros, i can feel the effect it gave me. You will be less likely to fall and ur opponents legs will break.

Good to see team captain leading the way for the first comment. Anyway, today's spirits were good even though it was raining. Matches like these make me feel my involvement in the team worthwhile even after taking a $15 cab down after doing 24hrs of duty.

Overall good game today...only 1 loss in 10 games is no joke. Hope we can improve on our record.
