An inauguration match for our new manager is in place before his first official takeover. Coincidentally, today also serves as our testimonial match for our new jersy, Red Kappa. A lot of history has already been made with the old red. It has earned its much needed rest and will now pass on the ‘duty’.

The opponent today is one which we have played against quite a few times. If I’m correct, we have yet to concede a lost to them. Although this match is not an official one, there’s pressure to maintain the ‘undefeated’ streak against them. As we line up against one another, we noticed that there isn’t much changes for the opponent, much less their tactical formation. However, the same could not be said for us.

A testimonial match will often bring about a new formation change and tryout of new position. Attackers during the normal lineup are placed in the backline and defenders in the midfield or attack. The benefit of making such a move is giving the both the attacks and defend the feeling of being in each others’ shoes.

Playing in unfamiliar position often takes quite awhile for each of the players to adapt to. If the opponent takes advantage of this, the result could be devastating. Since the opponents are made up of a group of senior players, the accumulation of a vast knowledge about soccer is definitely present in them. It doesn’t take them long before they realized that we are all uncomfortable in our positions and scoring an early goal isn’t hard. A long ball from the right is not being dealt with cleanly, as such, it frees up the opponent attackers to make a move towards the goal with almost no obstruction at all. A delicate chip from the attacker beats our makeshift GK, Kelvin, and breaks the deadlock in just a few minutes into the game. 0-1!! For this first time in the last few matches, Songbo is on the backfoot.

An early goal serves as a good wake up call. One can be sure that if there’s no response from this, Songbo will be in for a very long tough day. Though Songbo’s combine experience is far less than the opponent but what they truly strive is their team work, discipline and hard work. Having settled down and adjusted well to their individual positions, the look for the equalizer is well underway. A quick release from Jackie saw Kenny out running the opponent defense. With just the GK to beat, he cool slots the ball into the bottom right hand corner. 1-1. Songbo equalized !!

Not being contemplated with evening out the score line. Songbo push further in seeking out the lead. A loose ball from corner falls to Hweequan and he lets fly a ground ball which happens to roll and find its way into the bottom corner. 2-1. Songbo leads !!

The tide has turned and it’s the opponents who are on the back foot. They can no longer stay on the defensive with the score line now against them. As they upped their attack and push their man forward, they created more gaps in their back line. A through ball from the right saw Commando Tan racing down the flank. With a defender and Kaiseng on the far left, he cuts in from the right and hits a curling shot with his left foot. The ball curls in nicely and beats the fully out stretched goalkeeper. A goal that’ll make Paul Scholes proud too. 3-1. Songbo extends the lead !!

During team talk, Alvin decided to tweak the formation again. Everyone was reverted back into their original position. This was a test to see how much of a difference the team would do under a ‘normal’ situation.

With a new formation, though the usual one, in placed. Time is still needed for players to fine tune themselves. It is within this time frame that the team looks vulnerable. An in-swinging cross from the left are met with a header from the opponent. Though the contact was weak, it was able to direct the ball through the legs our yet-another-makeshift-GK, Kenny. 3-2. Songbo’s lead is cut!

Sensing that an equalizer is possible, the opponents send in more and more waves of crosses in hopes of putting the ball into the back of the net. But much to their dismay, the ‘original’ defense is up to the task to repel all the attacks. Frustrated with how Songbo’s defense, the opponents resolved to physically running them down. Fouls are committed frequently in hopes of wearing down the morale of Songbo. This however, could just be a blessing in disguise for Songbo. A long hopeful ball was whipped in by Jackie, at close to the halfway line, from a free kick. Confusion at the opponent defense allowed the ball to bounce and find its back across the goal line. 4-2. Songbo restores the 2 goal lead.

That goal was the morale booster for Songobo and a “de-moralizer” for the opponents. Seeking for a consolation goal, the opponents continue to push on. With more than half their team in the Songbo’s half, one can see that they are clearly forgoing any defensive play. One has to pay the price for not having a good defense in place. Goal kick taken by Kenny was head on by Junbing and turns into a through ball for Jiaxiang. He rounds the opponent GK and slots the ball into the empty net. 5-2. Songbo finishes off in style.

With a 3 goal deficit, the opponent has no way of coming back. The match ended with a good, sweet and deserving victory for Songbo. 5-2 !! Kudos for Alvin to try out the new formation.

OLD LEGS SEAL THE GAME.....it took nothing but a brillant and hardworking effort from our evergreen CapiTan to continue their 9 win unbeaten streak. With a audacious cross field pass from the left flank, the ball was received by Goal Machine in no man's land and he even had the luxury to had 3 touches before placing the ball into the net.

CapiTan has been producing the form that could win him the Player of the Year award in recent matches and SongBo FC is begining to find him indispensable. Being a father certainly has moulded him into a clever player of Paul Scholes calibre. 2 winning goals in 2 matches tells much abt his contribution and jus to remind u...he is a defensive midfielder.

The match started at 11am, a weather well-liked by our TigerYan but not the rest of the team members. The outfit was black and Songbo knew they are in for a good time. Notably was our dear Ah Lam at the sidelines making notes on all his players. He will be the team manager from next match onwards and selection will be decided by him. One thing for sure is Ah Lam will receive alot of blowjob offers by players for a first team position.

Match started off with 10 opponents on the field. Though with 10, Songbo still can't make a breakthrough. Lusty Seng starting on the left flank was in terrible shape. Missing headers, losing possession, mindless running etc were all displayed by him. Captain Sparrow gave him nothing except scolding but that did not improve his game at all.

Jackie was sorely missing match fitness but he showed to team manager why he is worth the first team spot with a direct goal from corner near the end of half-time. That goal lifted Songbo spirits and gave them a relief. Half time team talk was a standard " no letting them equalise and kill the game off"

Simple gameplan but it was not executed out. Minutes into the 2nd half, a low corner into the middle of the box was headed into the net by an unmarked opponent. Defence is indeed sleeping and Songbo was brought back to reality again.

Team manager decided to go for a win and he brought on changes of Kong Hee for Lusty Seng, William for Wayang Quan and Sabian for Mervin. Kong Hee recently was busy tracking down the whereabouts of Sun Ho's husband that he forget his markings n positioning on the field for a good 15minutes.

Sabian was worse, he claimed he can knock down opponents without sweat but truth is he cant outrun any of them. A once NBA Star was reduced to a kopitiam uncle with spare tyres and he dare to announce he is going to take part in basketball competitions. Without a doubt his team is going home as soon as France left South Africa.

The match was without much penetration and all it need was a brillant cross by CapiTan to Goal Machine to seal the game. 2-1 !!! for Songbo. The game could have been finished off even early had not william shot straight at the keep from 6 yards out.

End of the day, our team manager has gathered enough information he need for his dream team selection. Who will pass his Beep test? Who will keep his place? Who will be dropped to the reserves?

The chopping board has been laid. Whose head will be first to go?

All will be unveiled on 29 August at Dunearn Sec.

Writing of Match Reports

Dear Songbo Brothers,

This is one of the matters in our EGM Agenda that we had some time ago. To refresh everyone's memory (and for those who wasn't there), we had unanimously agreed that the match report writing for each match should not be used as a tool for punishment. Rather, it should be a form of responsibility that each member of our Songbo team should bear.

As a team, we have progressed considerably over the years. We have just secured our 3rd team jersey and, if things go smoothly, we will have our very first sponsorship logo on our jersey. We play almost week in, week out and we sometimes actually forget that one of our members is an entrepreneur who has started his own cake shop business. We, as brothers, should help as much as we can to spread the word. All of you can see the skill and effort he puts in each of his cake creations by the pictures he posts on Facebook.

I will make use of the 2 online channels we have, blog and Facebook, to include some form of advert or links to Metrocakes.

As for now, let me elaborate on some of the points of the match writing system. It will be modeled after a rotational system, with each member writing the report once. Below is the list:

Match Person Points
139 Mervin 1
140 Kenny 1
141 Swee Chao 1

142

Alvin Cai

1
143 Rujia 1
144 Binghong 1
145 Junbing 1
146 Kaiseng 1
147 Hweequan 1
148 Jeremy 1
149 Alvin Toh 1
150 Jiaxiang 1
151 Huang Weijie 1
152 Tan Weijie 1
153 Jackie 1
154 Kelvin 1
155 Yanshou 1
156 Sybian 1
157 Mervin 2
158 Kenny 2
159 Swee Chao 2
160 Alvin Cai 2

We have scheduled till Match 160 for now. Since you now know when you should write the report well in advanced, it is your own responsibility to swap your slot with someone else if you cannot make it. I will be keeping track of the reports written and updating the list as necessary.

In the event that you are facing technical difficulties in logging on to the blog to publish your report, please contact our IT team, Kenny, Swee Chao or myself, for us to publish your report instead.

Therefore, there should and would be no excuses for a match report not to be written. I want to reiterate again that match report writing is not a form of punishment but a responsibility that we all should bear.

Please leave any comments or suggestions if you have. Thanks.

What is Mervin doing?

Our 'Model' outfit for Songbo FC
(Su lang mai su say)

After 2 consecutive charity matches, Songbo FC is all geared up for this official game. The outcome of this match will indirectly affect the next one as rumors having been going around saying that the highly-acclaimed soon-to-be-initiated Songbo FC’s first manager will arrived to take his first game in charged. A win here will no doubt put him under some pressure of maintaining the superb 6 games winning streak run (8 if the 2 charity matches are counted). A lost here will enable him to start things ‘afresh’.

At a first glance, it may seem that getting a win here would be a tough one as the opponents are made up by a mixture of our Indians and Malay friends, a very lethal combination. But a well drilled pre-match briefing by Capt. Sparrow (which could be his last as a player cum manger), managed to instilled some confidence back to the team.

This venue is a first for Songbo. Though it’s bigger than the previous one, it’s still quite small in size. A small field would mean that there won’t be much chance for the players to ‘slack-off’. They must be on the alert constantly.

As expected, the first few minutes of the 1st half are packed with a lot of actions. Short and quick passes are made frequently and plenty of good chances are created on both ends. The best dressed of the day, Robinbo, playing on the right flanked, doesn’t seem to be able to get into the game. He drifts too wide off his position, which causes a lot of holes in between him and Lusty. The opponents took advantage of this and focus more of their attack on the right. Though the highly-reputable Songbo’s defense managed to repelled most of the attack, cracks eventually appear. A quick one-two between the opponent’s CM and RM saw them broke through the defense line. With just the keeper to beat, the RM coolly toe poked the ball into the bottom left hand corner. Songbo down 0-1.

Rather than pondering on how to rectify his playing styles, Robinbo feels that it’s his new Addidas Predator soccer boots that is hindering his game. He runs off to change to a new pair. Clearly one can see that his boots wasn’t the problem when his performance with the new pair of boots hasn’t improved abit at all.

Songbo dig hard trying to find an equalizer. And they did come very close with Jeremy, who have a thought too much, choose to take on the defender rather than having a shot at goal. The attempt ended in a failure as the defender has the upper hand most of the time. The referee blew for the half time whistle and a dejected Songbo head off to the ‘dressing room’.

After a earful from Capt. Sparrow, the rejuvenated Songbo heads off to the pitch, thinking of how to get back into the game. The 2nd half started almost in a similar fashion to the first. But the difference is that instead of a draw, Songbo is now down by a goal. Lady luck seems to be smiling at Songbo when a very poorly taken goal kick fell to Alvin Toh. There’s still much to be done before he can get the ball into control and shift himself into a good position to shoot. A neat touch enables him to dribble past the approaching DC. With his sight clear on goal, he unleashes a curling shot which spins away from the GK’s hands at the last moment. Goal! Songbo is back into the game!

The unexpected goal seems to have dealt a heavy blow to the opponents. They’re now committing more players to defense then attack. The few attacking chances that they have are quickly broken down with either poor passes or well zonal marking of the superb and in-form Songbo defense. With not much attacking threat, Songbo focus all their energy into adding another goal and turning the tide around completely.

Robinho, whose performance in the 2nd half is much better than first, swings a cross in from the left. Mervin was at the receiving end of the ball. But his poor first touch could only result in another missed chance. With the game heading for what seem like a draw, a break from the left sees Jeremy cutting back a ball back to Capt. Sparrow in the penalty box. Almost losing his balance, he manages to catch a glimpse of the on rushing Commando Tan, who is having an outstanding game, and lays a pass to him. For a moment, time seem to freeze. As the ball roll slowly into Commando Tan’s path, he lifts his right foot and moves himself into a shooting position. A well executed and connected half volley puts the ball into the bottom left hand corner. GOAL !!!! A rare comeback from Songbo !! A good break down the right by Jeremy, a good awareness from Capt. Sparrow to spot Commando Tan, a well executed strike by Commando Tan to put the ball into the net, and mostly importantly, a strong belief by the team is what made this a comeback possible.

However, the win is still not guaranteed as there’s still time left for the opponents to draw the game or worse, make a comeback of their own. In the dying minutes of the game, a cross from the left saw the ball connected with the opponent striker. Fortunately, the execution wasn’t good and the ball flew agonizingly close to the right hand pole.

After what seem like eternity, the desperately-awaited full time whistle was blown. And the comeback win is now 100% confirmed! A very good play by Songbo made this a much deserved victory. Just how far can they continue with this winning streak? The question doesn’t lies with how good the next opponent will be… But rather, can Songbo continue to carry on this belief that, they have the ability to win every match as long as they play a mentally-tough, hard-working and well-disciplined game.

It is another warm up match after the testimonial match last week and a month of rest before that. Songbo was denied a chance to have an actual match after the field was found to be not fit to field 2 full teams. It was so small to the point that a goal kick could easily reach the other goal post. After some agreement, both teams decided to field 9 players aside so that it would not be over cramp.

Songbo's new manager have not reported for duty since being appointed. The captain, in the absence of the manager, gave some instructions to the team before the match. 1st was not to shoot before the half way line, and 2nd was to attack more from the flanks.

1st half started and action was seen almost at every part of the field. The field was not a good condition due to previous days' rain. Bounces were difficult to predict and touches were poor. Jackie was spreading passes to the flanks as instructed but with the small field, opponents closes down quickly, denying the chance for the wings to cross easily.

The 1st goal came from Jeremy, who manage to get lose of his marker, headed a ball from a corner by Jackie. The ball bounce onto the floor and into the roof of the net. 1-0.

The 2nd goal came soon after and Jackie who was in midfield, flick the ball towards Jeremy who was on the right. Jeremy, upon receiving, ran past his opponent and slot the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom right of the goal. 2-0.

A 3rd almost came when a shot from Mervin was cleared off the line by the opponent. It came from a chance where a shot from Jiaxiang hit the top of the goal post and into the path of Mervin. With the keeper out of position, Mervin tries a shot but it was weak enough for the defender to have time to clear it off.

Jackie, Kenny and Jeremy was later substituted out for their good performance, according to the captain, and Kelvin, Chao and Seng took their positions. With some changes made, the 1st half soon ended.

Substitutes were made during the half with William for Quan, and Jeremy for Junbing. It was a rare sight for our top striker to be seen at Songbo's own goal post, except when playing fico.

The 2nd half started and changes was seen at the opponent side, especially their left back, where a familiar figure, Commando Tan was seen warming up. Songbo was seen getting attack since the start of the half. Shots were made by the opponents which saw Jeremy made a few good saves.

The hard work of the opponents paid off when 1 striker rushed for a ball which had just cross the line. The striker took a shot and Jeremy, who thought it had went out, looked at the ball flew into the goal. The referee, who didn't saw the out, allow the goal to be counted. 2-1.

Some good run from Kelvin saw Commando Tan conceded a penalty. Kelvin had ran into Commando Tan's leg and the referee and decide to give a penalty. Jeremy, took up the responsibility, coolly placed the ball into the bottom left of the goal post, giving the keeper no chance. 3-1.

Quan was later substituted Jeremy, who had a great performance out there. The opponents continues their attack and chaos was seen in the defense of Songbo, slowly breaking up by the no.16.

The defense soon break down and a pass from no.16 was met with 4 of the opponents inside the penalty box. Seng tries to clear the ball away, but was unable to do so, and Quan was beaten by a shot from the opponent. 3-2.

Jackie and Kenny was sub out again, replacing Kelvin and Chao. The match carried on with goal mouth to goal mouth action, all from goal kicks.
The defense begin to stabilize but the attacks are still from the opponents.

After like over 20
tries, Rujia managed to somehow connect a goal kick from Quan, catching the keeper off guarded. The keeper tries to catch up but can only helplessly watch the ball bounce into the net. 4-2.

The referee soon blew the final whistle. Songbo still have problems to solve if they are going to win their next match.

After a month of rest, Songbo FC came back onto the pitch on the back of 5 wins on the trot. Pundits predicted that surely their winning streak will come to an end as Songbo FC is an aging machine whose cranks and gears require oiling and warming up before they run in full steam. Therefore, Songbo FC came up with a brilliant idea; to declare this match as a Testimonial Match for Binghong, which would render the result insignificant, get some much needed match fitness under their belts and give their new player manager a stress-free match to try out his tactics. A 1-stone-kill-3-birds solution it seemed.

Upon arrival on the pitch, all preparations seemed to have been wasted. The player manager could not make it for the match, the Captain of Songbo FC is still in bed (after uttering at least 3 different formations the night before on an alcohol-induced high) and the opponents could only muster 8 of their teammates for this match. Our disciplinary master, Tiger Yan, made the wake-up call to the Captain, who trudged into the pitch 15 minutes later with alcohol still fresh in his breath.

In his drunken stupor, he fielded 2 sidebacks as centre defenders and deployed 3 midfielders without telling them what to do. The lack of organization showed immediately in the opening minutes of the game; the 2 centre defenders had a hard time trying to get balls out of the area, the 3 midfielders played so wide that our sole man in the midfield, Commando Tan, was left like a naked prostitute with legs spread wide open facing an army of men who has been locked up for months without seeing a woman. In other words, raped relentlessly.

For the good part of the half, Songbo FC played like they had 8 men on the pitch, losing possession needlessly, playing overcomplicated passes and failing to make their numbers count. The gulf of a 3 player difference is still evident; Songbo FC broke through several times that presented 1-on-1 opportunities. However, Songbo FC’s players, notably Jeremy and Junbing, were kind enough not to take advantage of the opponents and shot straight at the keeper. Songbo FC needed 20 mins for their first goal to come, with Junbing finally finishing off a move which saw the ball bouncing around the penalty area begging for a finish. However, the opponents got a shock lead later on in the half.

Playing as a sideback for the whole of his career, Lusty Seng was taught to keep players off the sides and forcing them to the center of the park where more players can sniff out the threat. However, this knowledge went against his this time. After the opponents got the ball into the penalty area, left 1-on-1 with the striker, Kaiseng played like his usual role and left the striker with a good view of the goal. The ball ended up at the back of the net. A similar situation occurred minutes later. A simple fake from the striker left Kaiseng off balance and placing the ball into the back of the net was a formality. The opponents, with a 3-men disadvantage, went 2-1 ahead while Songbo FC hung their heads.

Songbo FC managed to claw back their lead before the half ended though. A good finish from Jeremy after a hardworking display of ball winning on the left saw Songbo FC level. Another bout of good work and perseverance by Jeremy saw him slid the ball beneath the keeper past the empty goal, giving Mervin the simplest chance to score in the history of Songbo FC. Advantage Songbo FC.

Going into the break with a slender lead and 2 goals conceded already, Songbo FC was forced to make changes by reverting to a more usual formation. Junbing got back to defending the goal, Jackie, who was introduced late in the 1st half, was to continue his good work in centre defense, Hweequan was pushed to a forward role and the formation was reverted to a 4-4-2. Binghong, who had missed a glorious opportunity to score late in the 1st half, has to leave and was replaced by Jiaxiang. Jeremy was given a rest as our still-high Captain felt it was time for him to play.

With the formation back to normal, it was almost a cakewalk for Songbo FC as the game wore on. The opponents, visibly tired from trying to do an 11-men job with 8, conceded 3 more goals. Tan Weijie, invigorated by the change in formation after being slaughtered in the 1st half, saw his shot cannon off the top of the bar, on the pitch past the goal line and out of the goal. As we have seen in the World Cup, even professional referees aided by 2 linemen miss such goals, therefore, we did not expect this Sunday amateur referee to make any sort of decision. The ball, however, went back to Swee Chao, who mustered all his strength to ram the ball goalwards. It paid off as the keeper did not manage to keep the shot out.

Jiaxiang finally opened a 3 goal lead for Songbo when he finished off a chance in the area after wasting a few golden opportunities. If the match was played on FICO, he would have had a hat trick at least.

Kenny got his name on the scoresheet as the last scorer for Songbo FC as he placed the ball in the low corner after some good passing work gave him a clear goalscoring opportunity. He had just missed a glorious chance where he dribbled past the last man and was left 1-on-1 with the keeper but he slipped and spilled his shot. Perhaps the F.I.R concert was still fresh in his mind.

6-2 the final score. It would have been an emphatic scoreline on any other normal match day but against an opponent with only 8-men for the whole of the match, expectations of a 7-0 or 8-0 scoreline were not heavy at all. Songbo FC needs to improve on this performance, especially the sharpness in front of the goal, if they are to keep their 5 match winning streak running. Perhaps the inevitable 1st match for their player manager would bring that.

Mervin

A word from our newly appointed Treasurer!

Hey Guys,

I am the new treasurer for SBFC!! Hope you guys can give me the fullest support!!

I shall summarise some of the keys pt during our meeting at BATAM Conference on the treasury portion:
  1. Our captain Sparrow has the intention of beefing up our fund but also have to decide a limit which the fund can be raised to prevent the misuse of the fund

  2. Fine system for being late will be converted to a collective work order. For instance, Instead of paying money, the late person shall have the initiative to buys drinks after the match / the next match. Nt neceessary have to be drinks, can be other forms as well which the late person can think off. But bottom of the line, we are already adults, should have the basic discipline and sense of punctuality. We do not want to remind each other again and again for this issue.. so Step Up, guys!!

  3. Members. has also bought up on how exactly the fund shall be used to ensure fairness for all the contributors. I will maitain the list. Note this list is not the finalised, so feel free to comment on the list or better suggestion then we can make necessary changes based on majority votes.

Mode of Contribution of Funds

I have suggested to contribute the fund quarterly with a max of $10each time. Thus the month of contribution will be:
  • January
  • April

Summary,
Kelvin Lee

It never rains but pours. And that is an apt phrase for the deluge of goals in this one-sided encounter with our opponents.

That is not to say that we were uber-good, or that the opponents were disgracefully lousy. However, we can say that our opponent lacked professionalism as they only had 8 players to start the game. A request by them for us to only utilize 8 of our players was turned down as it made no sense for us to have 14 players available and get 6 of our adrenalin-packed players to sit on the bench because of the opponents' amateurish attitude.

The match started tentatively for Songbo as the opponents decided to play a passing game in their half with the intention to waste time and tire our players. This tactic would only work if they have players who could hold the ball and pass it well, but that was not to be. We stepped up and applied constant pressure and the result was almost instantaneous. A loose ball not well cleared by the defenders dropped to Tiger's feet, before he gave a roar and made a low curling shot past the helpless goalie's fingertips to put the ball into the net. 1-0 Songbo!

The second goal was a testament to our set-piece prowess. A typical inswinging corner by Jackie was sent to the far post where Captain Sparrow leaped like a fish to power a header to score his goal. 2-0!

However, it seems like after these 2 goals, our attackers lost their bite. Chances after chances were spurned with bad finishing and lack of composure. These wasted chances in front of goal got the defenders barking up grunts of disapproval and disappointment. At the halftime break, Captain Sparrow expressed his concern to the attackers but saved his anger to berate the defenders for not showing team spirit. As one of the defenders, I was an accomplice to crime too. Sparrow decided to shake things up by radically changing the line up. Kenny was to play LM, Chao to play AM, Kelvin to play RM, bringing out Jacky, Jeremy and Alvin to the bench, with Binghong in to be DC. Tiger was to play as GK with PapaSoh moving up to be SC. The reason for the change was to let the defenders know how difficult it is to score goals against a 9-men team.

But...the defenders, especially Kenny and Chao stepped up to the challenge.

Few minutes into the second half, Speedy Kenny latched onto a cleared ball by the defenders and stormed down the left flank leaving defenders in his wake. Without any support, he made the decision to shoot and was rewarded when his shot found the right corner of the goal and nestled sweetly at the back of the net. 3-0!

The early third goal by us totally wiped out the opponent's already wavering determination to fight back and put us in a roaring position to obtain more goals. Their defence started to clear balls aimlessly and were more intent on grabbing our player's crotch than getting the right ball. Ask BerbaTOH for his opinion on that. His was almost squeezed dry by the opponent's belligerent No 4 and their DC. The referee was also quite happy to let the fouls go unpunished as he started to go lenient on the opposition.

Chao-Ge who was playing well as the AM constantly put pressure on the defenders, and their tenacity broke when a goalmouth scramble initiated by Chao-Ge saw the loose ball picked up PapaSoh. His next action is till now, of contention, as to he walked the ball into goal ala Arsenal style, or simply the ball bounced off his foot to roll into goal. Nevertheless, 4-0 to Songbo. A goal is still a goal.

CapiTan, back from his overseas assignment, is enjoying an Indian summer looking at his recent form. Marauding defenders, breaking up defences and adding to that, assisting Kenny in his second goal, did not seem too difficult for him. A run down the right flank bypassing the oppnent's LB, Capitan cut into the penalty area and passed a low ball across goal for the sprinting Kenny to easily slot the ball past the GK and into the net. 5-0!

PapaSoh's slow but strategic running saw him adding another goal to his account. (seriously, i forgot how this 6th goal came about so I will use my creative imagination. :P) After receiving a clearance from C.Weijie, Kenny brought the ball down to his feet in a display of good control, lobanged an oncoming defender, stormed down the left flank. As he looked up, he saw PapaSoh revving his diesel-powered engine. Without delay, Kenny passed the ball to PapaSoh's feet before PapaSoh slotted the ball to the left corner of goal. 6-0! And there's still more!

RoBINGho, was bent on joining the goalmouth action even though he was playing as the CB. The scalliwag showed us landlubbers how goals should be scored with style and aplomb. The oppnents defenders must be dazed when they were wondering if they were seeing Rio Ferdinand or Robinho in the field. They were right if they thought both. Turning defence into offence, RoBINGho chose not to clear the ball and instead dribbled the ball up from our box to the other. Along the way, not forgetting to bring his buddy into the fray, he passed the ball to Jackie, who returned a sweet one-two pass to RoBINGho. Upon receiving the return pass, RoBINGho was in a goalscoring position and all he had to do was slam the goal past the kena-raped-once-and-again GK and into goal. Lucky 7-0 to Songbo!

When the final whistle was blown, the opponent's faces showed that they were relieved that their nightmare was over. Although facing an understrength team, our victory was comprehensive and anything less would be considered a failure. Well done guys!

3 Goals again for Songbo FC as they win 3 in a row

Pre-match warm-ups were normally a time for Songbo FC to discuss current affairs, latest soccer news and practice corner kicks. This time though, key players including the captain were not present yet, causing some pre-match anxiety. Nevertheless, all intended players for the match made it in the end. A sign of ill-discipline due to the lack of an imposed fine system?

Coming on the back of 2 convincing wins, Songbo FC has the right form to turn it into a 3 win streak and to "earn" their Batam trip. However, an early analysis of the opponents reveals that it was a team Songbo FC had not encountered before. A team of Malays, yes, but this was a team of Malays who had already reached certain stages like familyhood in life. Therefore, they might not show the typical weaknesses that Malay teams were known for. Songbo FC was given their pre-match team talk, their ceremonial war cry and the game started off.

Early stages of the game revealed that the pre-match analysis was mostly right; the opponent's central defenders were big and imposing, heading and clearing high balls in their paths with ease. Looks like Songbo's plans to use the long ball was not going to work. However, besides from a few individuals, their technicality were not vastly superior to Songbo FC.

For certain, their strikers did not have an eye for goal like Songbo's Jeremy. Coming on the back of a scoring streak in the past few games, he made a brief glance at the keeper as he collected a loose knock down from Hweequan in the middle of the park. Noticing that the keeper was out of position, he made a swing at the ball towards the goal...all the way to the back of the net! The keeper could only watch in awe as the ball went over his tall frame into his goal. 1-0 to Songbo!

In the past seasons, Songbo FC could hold on to 1-0 leads for as long as the game went out. This season, however, tells a different story as statistics show 1 clean sheet in 11 games. Thus, no effort was made to hold on till the game was settled; the goal came too early for that as well. The opponents, downed by a goal they did not expect to concede at that point of time, went on the search of an immediate response. Their efforts almost bore fruit when they played the ball into the box and their striker slid the ball under Junbing's body. It was, much to the relieve of Songbo FC, disallowed for offside. It was, however, a warning sign for Songbo as they allowed the opponents too much time on the ball outside their penalty area.

Songbo managed to go into the half-time break with their lead still intact. A change was decided to replace Huang with Robinhong, who was looking to build up his match fitness after a successful run out last match.

The 2nd half could not start off worse for Songbo FC. Repeatedly warned by their Captain that the 1st 5 mins were crucial, they conceded an early equalizer. Lusty Seng, swapped to the left back position for Robinhong to play on the right, was turned inside-out by the opponent's right winger. With Lusty Seng out of the way, the winger had all the time to swing a cross to his striker, who made no mistake and placed an unstoppable shot past Junbing. 1-1! Was a 3-win streak too much to ask?

A response was needed and some members of Songbo FC tried to make the difference. Rujia, wearing a pair of boots which were not his due to his incompetency in buying a pair of boots given a week, was playing in pain as blisters on his foot hogged his mind. Nevertheless, he managed to lash a swerving, albeit slow, shot which the keeper pushed onto the upright. Tiger Yan was visibly frustrated, either by the performance by some members on the field or by some key needs missing in his life, and almost had the chance to take the lead when he received the ball in the area but was prevented from having a shot as NBA star Sybian did a nice screen and partially obstructed his own teammate.

A heavy stamp by the opponent on Sybian's toes gave Rujia the chance to swap him for AlvinTov. Despite the pain he is in, Sybian initially refused the change, causing confusion in his teammates and AlvinTov who was already in the field. In the end, Sybian finally hobbled off the pitch.

It proved to be an inspired change; moments later, AlvinTov got the ball near the edge of the area, saw Jeremy in a good position inside the box and delicately chipped the ball in his path. There was still work to be done though. Jeremy coolly controlled the ball with his first touch and slotted the ball inside the left of the goal. 2-1 to Songbo FC!

With the score at 2-1, and with Songbo's current defensive record, the game was by no means over. Robinhong created some anxiety for his teammates in defense as he screamed for assistance and displayed his ball holding skills in dangerous areas. However, he did provide moments of burst down the flank to provide support for attacks.

As the clock wind down, a moment of unnecessary madness from the opponent's keeper gave away a needless penalty to Songbo FC. An elbow to nudge off Jeremy when they both tussled for a loose ball saw the referee point to the spot.

A 3-1 scoreline would be a massive relieve for Songbo FC as time was on their side and the win would be assured. Having missed spot kicks previously, Jeremy refused the chance to make it a hat trick. Up stepped the man-in-the-moment, oozing with confidence from his spot kick goal last match, "1 shot 1 kill" Quan walked forward and placed the ball on the spot. Typically, his spot kicks were rocket missiles that flew into the goal (or into the fence), with fatigue already consuming him, he had the mental stability and calmness to place the ball into the bottom left of the goal. 3-1 to Songbo FC! "1 shot 1 kill! 1 shot 1 kill!" came the chants from the bench.

With the win seemingly assured, Songbo FC made their last substitution with Mervin coming in for Tiger Yan. The rest of the match saw Songbo FC defending stoutly to make the win theirs. Final score, 3-1 to Songbo and a trip to Batam awaits.

FIRST CLEAN SHEET OF THE SEASON

Today marks the return of robinho back to songbo fc to help them salvage their batten ridden season =D

Vice capt lam is still missing from the team due to his knee injury, Lusty seng went to taiwan for his wedding photo taking, Toh and Jia xiang unavailable due to work commitments.

Opponents is a team that songbo have never fail to lose against. The opponents know it and so they went on a attack right from the start where they started the kick off. Songbo was pushed back and for the first ten minutes we were on the backfoot and could hardly get a decent possession. Then Songbo began to find the rhythmn back and opponent were being pinned back in their own half and our efforts pay off when a long ball was pumped into the penalty area, el nino controlled it and dribbled towards goal and the opponent tackled him from behind. prrrrrrrrrrr~ referee pointed to the spot without hesitation. Wayang quan stepped up to take the penalty. He stepped up calmly and place his shot accurately into the net. It was heard after the match that he said " Even if its peter schmeichael between the goal post, i would still score!!" Such arrogrance!! Opponents kick off and nearly scored an equaliser few minutes later. A loose ball was picked up by Kelvin and he passed back to Tiger yan, the speed of the ball was slow and the opponent striker was closing down on Tiger, instead of him moving towards the ball and cleared it, he waited for the ball to come to him and opponent was already on him. He was lucky the ball didn't deflect back into goal and he managed to pick it back up. Capt sparrow on the sidelines blasted at him" WTF are you doing? go attack the ball, why wait for it to come to you...blah blah blah" Tiger showed his drogba face and shouted back" you think being GK very easy? you try come and do, you also never become GK before.....blah blah blah" Capt sparrow has no replies to that because he was already laughing his teeth out on the bench.

First half ended with Songbo fc taking a 1-0 lead to the dressing room. Capt sparrow blasted at the team. " This team has totally no bite, why isn't the scoreline showing more? I want more goals!! The worse that can happen after the start of kick off is they equalise and go on to win us! I WANT YOU ALL TO BUCK UP!!" *Note its not exactly what capt sparrow said but the meaning is there lah hahahaha Think capt sparrow is very much disappointed with his liverpool team performance and don't want us to play like liverpool( No pride, No honour as quoted by Tiger Yan). Some changes were made, Robinho in LB and mer in RM was subbed in while huang and sybian take a rest. Papa soh was back in GK position while Tiger went up to create terror in the opponents' defence.

2nd half began with opponent pumping long balls forward from their backline. Songbo easily dealed with it, robinho made his first touch of ball since 6 mths ago with a interception which sparktan received and began our aim for more goals. Our 2nd goal came when a pass was made to El Nino who raced cleared of the defence and the gk came out to block him. But El Nino managed to lob the Gk and GOAL!!!!!!! 2-0 up to songbo fc. Opponents looked exhausted and out of ideas. Kick off resumed. A long ball was launched forward towards Tiger yan. He went to chase the ball and an opponent was going to intercept it. Tiger slipped and went into opponent's balls with his boots high up! ( think opponent no more father's day) Tiger immediately get up and said its an accident, he slipped and went to comfort the opponent. Commando of the opponent team said " cannot get ball, don't go in lah" Tiger heard it and became very angry, flexed his muscles and put on his drogba face" I slipped and slide! SLIPPED SLIPPED SLIPPED!!!" after saying he flexed his muscles again, pumped his fist in the air and walked away in style....LOLssss

Their number 7 is their main target man but he's so wide right that the balls havent reach him, it was already intercepted by songbo defence. One such long ball came and robinho intercepted it and pass on to jackie who went on a run with no defenders stopping him. He swinged a cross in, the gk and jeremy jumped together and both of them with the ball ended up in the net. So was that a cross or a shot by jackie??? Someone pls verify who to award the goal too. Thanks. With 10 mins left into the game, Opponent number 7 left the game and they were playing with only 10 men. It was now noted by the bench that we only played more passing when we are tired and exhausted. It started at the defence where short passings were exchanged before launching another attack. The match ended shortly after. Finally a clean sheet by Songbo fc. Robinho had a good runout for the team too. With this songbo fc now is on a 3 match winning run. Keep it up guys!!

Songbo was back at Fuhua Sec for the 1st time this season and also got a new referee which we had not seen before. The consistently wrong referee was finally gone and Songbo wishes luck to the teams who had gotten him.

The opponents were familiar faces with pink jerseys which we had battled before. It seems they had bring with them foreign imports, with red shirts and 1 odd white shirt. Seems like they were unable to get all their 1st teams members.

The match started and 5 mins into the game, Alvin Cai fell to the ground, holding his left knee. Songbo became worried as it was an old injury. He was later sent off the field, with T.Weijie as the substitute.

Minutes later, an awkward header from Kenny made him strained his neck and was off the field for Alvin Toh with some changes made at the back line. Sources had claimed that actually Kenny had depleted his stamina just mins before after making a sprint from the defense to the front. He had taken the chance to go to the sideline to make a rest.

After a few attacking chances, a corner from Sybian flew towards the opponent's keeper. The keeper, not their 1st choice, drop the ball after trying to make a catch. Alvin Toh, who was just beside, make use of the chance and tap the ball into the goal. 1-0!

Minutes after the restart, a clearance from Seng flew just over the head of the defense. Jeremy ran free from his marker and made a 1st time superb volley from outside the penalty box. The ball flew over the keeper who was off his line and just low enough to go underneath the bar and into the net. 2-0!

Another injury came when Chao tries to make a clearance the ram the ball right into Seng who was in the way. Seng went down, desperately trying to catch for breath. He was later substituted for Kelvin after managing to get up.

2nd half came and Songbo saw the opponents made some changes to their lineup. Songbo maintains their shape and after a few attacks, Sybian was made free on the left flank. He tries to made a cross and the ball got deflected into the path of Alvin Toh. Alvin Toh skillfully lobs the ball with his left foot, just past the keeper who was coming out to close down him, and also just past the pole into the back of the net. 3-0!

In the midst of the game, T.Weijie was shown the 1st yellow card for only his 1st or 2nd game this season. The referee has booked him for kicking the ball away after a foul, which Tan claim that the momentum was already there and the referee was too strict on that.

Rujia and Sybian was later swapped for Kenny and Mervin respectively.

Despite the 3 goal difference, the opponents continue to make forceful advancement, making dives and calling for fouls when just barely making contact. A penalty was given under a this situation with Chao being the victim. He had twice conceded a foul which he had not make and this time it was inside a penalty box and he was furious.

"Choose one side and dive!"
That was what was heard from the bench before the penalty. Black, their penalty taker, also the one who 'won' the penalty, shoots the ball into the middle of goal post. Junbing, who was about to dive to his left, managed to stop and block the ball with his right hand. The ball flew out to give the opponents a corner. All of Songbo was glad that Junbing had not listen to the bench.

Just as everyone thought that god will giving them a clean sheet after not having one this season, Kenny made a blunder by tapping a ball away from Junbing who was about to make a save. Junbing tries a dive with a swing of his hands but was unable to even touch the ball. Songbo helplessly watch the ball bounce into the bottom corner of the goal post. 3-1!

The match ended 3-1 and Songbo received their 4th win this season.

Special Report:

After the match, there was an interview with the own goal scorer.

"I dunno why I did it, but I had subconsciously raised my leg to tap that ball. I could have let go of the ball to Junbing, kick it up high, or clear it to the side but I did none of those."

Maybe he was stressed by work. Maybe he was troubled by family matters. Maybe he was thinking of some girl at that moment. Maybe he wants to show the team how he would have performed if he was place in front. Or maybe he was suddenly possessed by something. It's up to each individual to think what they think it is.

Summary

Key Highlihts of the Match

- Our 4th consecutive match with the “eyesless” referee.

- Red card for our Tiger Yan

Pre match:

It was a fine & sunny match day which SB had returned back to the pitch after 3 weeks. Our nitemare begin when we saw a familiar face which we have been seeing for the last 3 macthes.. that is our “eyeless” referee!! This is the 4th consecutive match we are having him as referee.. Hard luck.. As our captain sparrow also failed to inform the organiser boycott this referee. As usual.. The match was started late as the opponents are having difficulties getting out of their bed..

1st Half:

As this team is a full malay team, as we always believed their inabalitily to control high ball but this team has proved us wrong.. in fact they are winning near 100% of the high balls. Opponents are spreading the ball with ease and dominating in midfield.. SB had tried their very best to contain them and they resorting to shoot on sight. However, things getting start to be out of hand. Opponent break through the flanks on few occasions causing problem for SB.. The 1st goal fo the match came from the left flank which opponent has Thief was overran and crosssed the ball. The opponent trapped the ball and past lusty seng without much effort and unleashed a powerful shot past the helpless Tiger..

0-1!!!!!

SB reacted well from the 1st goal shock. Trying to bulit our own game up. Our effort was rewarded when, Zouk Chua sent a high ball over at the right flank to Jack and he managed to keep in play. He continued to advance the opponent defence line. He crossed over to Jeremy with a well-timed & powerful header. The keeper somehow was able to block the ball but th ball was too heavy for him to handle the ball is at the back of the net!!!

1-1!!!!

This is a morale boosting goal for SB. The match continued. Both sides were making effort to add goal to the score sheet but to prevail.. Soon 1st Half ended..

Half time Talk

Sparrow was drilling Lusty seng for his numerous mistakes committed during the 1st half. Guess he is still in his day-dreaming mode, unable to come back to the realistic world..

General tatics for SB are also mentioned to apply during the 2nd half..

2nd Half:

During early 2nd half in fact almost half of the time, SB was still able to contain the opponent's attack and also able to to create couple of chances. One good chance came from SB, which a high ball was tripped from the midfield and found Alvin Toh free on RHS of the penalty box. He continued to dribble to the byline. To our horror, instead of passing the ball to Sparrow who is free from marking, he chose to shot at goal where the angle was compeletely covered by the keeper. As expected the shot was well saved by the keeper. Selfish Alvin..

As the match progressed under the hot burning sun, SB legs were getting heavier. Lusty Seng again letting the opponent past him too easily then, the ball was pass to another overlapping player and a low cross was sent and the following up player stuck out his leg and the ball past PapaSoh...

1-2!!! Another mistake by Lusty Seng..

SB morale was greatly shaken by then. With low morale & low enenrgy level.. Soon the next goal came.. SB committed a corner kick. SB has failed to reorg fast from it. Opponent is using this opportunity by having a short corner. The opponent collected the ball and a powerful shot is taken past Papasoh once again..

1-3!!!

Nevertheless, SB still continue to try very hard to get some respect back.

SB found the another promising chance down the right flank. Jeremy managed evaded tackles from the opponents & pass it to Tiger Yan, And he squared to Alvin Toh on the left.

Beep!!!!!!! Whistle blowed for offside!!!! which is so clear cut that Alvin is not in the offisde position as the injured opponent is in line with him. Another poor call by the referee..

At this point of Time Tiger Yan, was full of anger and ran straight to the referee. Using BOTH of his hand pointing middle finger at him & shouted: “F**K YOU!!, YOU ARE NOTHING!!! blah blah.. we shall let the Tiger Yan to address his reaction later..

Referee then flashed the red card at him & off he goes..

The match is also delayed due to injuiry from opponent which suspected to break his leg during launching tackles at Jeremy earlier on.

The match was resumed. As usual we are again dominated by the opponent. Shots are continued to rain at PapaSoh. However there is no further goals in th scoresheet. The match ended..

Final score 1-3!!

Another disappointing performance by SB.

Judging by our performance, doubt we can have our batam trip in near futre man...

Buck up SB!!! & Boycott this useless referee!! We shall never see him on the field again!! we hope...
