Summary,
Kelvin Lee

It never rains but pours. And that is an apt phrase for the deluge of goals in this one-sided encounter with our opponents.

That is not to say that we were uber-good, or that the opponents were disgracefully lousy. However, we can say that our opponent lacked professionalism as they only had 8 players to start the game. A request by them for us to only utilize 8 of our players was turned down as it made no sense for us to have 14 players available and get 6 of our adrenalin-packed players to sit on the bench because of the opponents' amateurish attitude.

The match started tentatively for Songbo as the opponents decided to play a passing game in their half with the intention to waste time and tire our players. This tactic would only work if they have players who could hold the ball and pass it well, but that was not to be. We stepped up and applied constant pressure and the result was almost instantaneous. A loose ball not well cleared by the defenders dropped to Tiger's feet, before he gave a roar and made a low curling shot past the helpless goalie's fingertips to put the ball into the net. 1-0 Songbo!

The second goal was a testament to our set-piece prowess. A typical inswinging corner by Jackie was sent to the far post where Captain Sparrow leaped like a fish to power a header to score his goal. 2-0!

However, it seems like after these 2 goals, our attackers lost their bite. Chances after chances were spurned with bad finishing and lack of composure. These wasted chances in front of goal got the defenders barking up grunts of disapproval and disappointment. At the halftime break, Captain Sparrow expressed his concern to the attackers but saved his anger to berate the defenders for not showing team spirit. As one of the defenders, I was an accomplice to crime too. Sparrow decided to shake things up by radically changing the line up. Kenny was to play LM, Chao to play AM, Kelvin to play RM, bringing out Jacky, Jeremy and Alvin to the bench, with Binghong in to be DC. Tiger was to play as GK with PapaSoh moving up to be SC. The reason for the change was to let the defenders know how difficult it is to score goals against a 9-men team.

But...the defenders, especially Kenny and Chao stepped up to the challenge.

Few minutes into the second half, Speedy Kenny latched onto a cleared ball by the defenders and stormed down the left flank leaving defenders in his wake. Without any support, he made the decision to shoot and was rewarded when his shot found the right corner of the goal and nestled sweetly at the back of the net. 3-0!

The early third goal by us totally wiped out the opponent's already wavering determination to fight back and put us in a roaring position to obtain more goals. Their defence started to clear balls aimlessly and were more intent on grabbing our player's crotch than getting the right ball. Ask BerbaTOH for his opinion on that. His was almost squeezed dry by the opponent's belligerent No 4 and their DC. The referee was also quite happy to let the fouls go unpunished as he started to go lenient on the opposition.

Chao-Ge who was playing well as the AM constantly put pressure on the defenders, and their tenacity broke when a goalmouth scramble initiated by Chao-Ge saw the loose ball picked up PapaSoh. His next action is till now, of contention, as to he walked the ball into goal ala Arsenal style, or simply the ball bounced off his foot to roll into goal. Nevertheless, 4-0 to Songbo. A goal is still a goal.

CapiTan, back from his overseas assignment, is enjoying an Indian summer looking at his recent form. Marauding defenders, breaking up defences and adding to that, assisting Kenny in his second goal, did not seem too difficult for him. A run down the right flank bypassing the oppnent's LB, Capitan cut into the penalty area and passed a low ball across goal for the sprinting Kenny to easily slot the ball past the GK and into the net. 5-0!

PapaSoh's slow but strategic running saw him adding another goal to his account. (seriously, i forgot how this 6th goal came about so I will use my creative imagination. :P) After receiving a clearance from C.Weijie, Kenny brought the ball down to his feet in a display of good control, lobanged an oncoming defender, stormed down the left flank. As he looked up, he saw PapaSoh revving his diesel-powered engine. Without delay, Kenny passed the ball to PapaSoh's feet before PapaSoh slotted the ball to the left corner of goal. 6-0! And there's still more!

RoBINGho, was bent on joining the goalmouth action even though he was playing as the CB. The scalliwag showed us landlubbers how goals should be scored with style and aplomb. The oppnents defenders must be dazed when they were wondering if they were seeing Rio Ferdinand or Robinho in the field. They were right if they thought both. Turning defence into offence, RoBINGho chose not to clear the ball and instead dribbled the ball up from our box to the other. Along the way, not forgetting to bring his buddy into the fray, he passed the ball to Jackie, who returned a sweet one-two pass to RoBINGho. Upon receiving the return pass, RoBINGho was in a goalscoring position and all he had to do was slam the goal past the kena-raped-once-and-again GK and into goal. Lucky 7-0 to Songbo!

When the final whistle was blown, the opponent's faces showed that they were relieved that their nightmare was over. Although facing an understrength team, our victory was comprehensive and anything less would be considered a failure. Well done guys!

3 Goals again for Songbo FC as they win 3 in a row

Pre-match warm-ups were normally a time for Songbo FC to discuss current affairs, latest soccer news and practice corner kicks. This time though, key players including the captain were not present yet, causing some pre-match anxiety. Nevertheless, all intended players for the match made it in the end. A sign of ill-discipline due to the lack of an imposed fine system?

Coming on the back of 2 convincing wins, Songbo FC has the right form to turn it into a 3 win streak and to "earn" their Batam trip. However, an early analysis of the opponents reveals that it was a team Songbo FC had not encountered before. A team of Malays, yes, but this was a team of Malays who had already reached certain stages like familyhood in life. Therefore, they might not show the typical weaknesses that Malay teams were known for. Songbo FC was given their pre-match team talk, their ceremonial war cry and the game started off.

Early stages of the game revealed that the pre-match analysis was mostly right; the opponent's central defenders were big and imposing, heading and clearing high balls in their paths with ease. Looks like Songbo's plans to use the long ball was not going to work. However, besides from a few individuals, their technicality were not vastly superior to Songbo FC.

For certain, their strikers did not have an eye for goal like Songbo's Jeremy. Coming on the back of a scoring streak in the past few games, he made a brief glance at the keeper as he collected a loose knock down from Hweequan in the middle of the park. Noticing that the keeper was out of position, he made a swing at the ball towards the goal...all the way to the back of the net! The keeper could only watch in awe as the ball went over his tall frame into his goal. 1-0 to Songbo!

In the past seasons, Songbo FC could hold on to 1-0 leads for as long as the game went out. This season, however, tells a different story as statistics show 1 clean sheet in 11 games. Thus, no effort was made to hold on till the game was settled; the goal came too early for that as well. The opponents, downed by a goal they did not expect to concede at that point of time, went on the search of an immediate response. Their efforts almost bore fruit when they played the ball into the box and their striker slid the ball under Junbing's body. It was, much to the relieve of Songbo FC, disallowed for offside. It was, however, a warning sign for Songbo as they allowed the opponents too much time on the ball outside their penalty area.

Songbo managed to go into the half-time break with their lead still intact. A change was decided to replace Huang with Robinhong, who was looking to build up his match fitness after a successful run out last match.

The 2nd half could not start off worse for Songbo FC. Repeatedly warned by their Captain that the 1st 5 mins were crucial, they conceded an early equalizer. Lusty Seng, swapped to the left back position for Robinhong to play on the right, was turned inside-out by the opponent's right winger. With Lusty Seng out of the way, the winger had all the time to swing a cross to his striker, who made no mistake and placed an unstoppable shot past Junbing. 1-1! Was a 3-win streak too much to ask?

A response was needed and some members of Songbo FC tried to make the difference. Rujia, wearing a pair of boots which were not his due to his incompetency in buying a pair of boots given a week, was playing in pain as blisters on his foot hogged his mind. Nevertheless, he managed to lash a swerving, albeit slow, shot which the keeper pushed onto the upright. Tiger Yan was visibly frustrated, either by the performance by some members on the field or by some key needs missing in his life, and almost had the chance to take the lead when he received the ball in the area but was prevented from having a shot as NBA star Sybian did a nice screen and partially obstructed his own teammate.

A heavy stamp by the opponent on Sybian's toes gave Rujia the chance to swap him for AlvinTov. Despite the pain he is in, Sybian initially refused the change, causing confusion in his teammates and AlvinTov who was already in the field. In the end, Sybian finally hobbled off the pitch.

It proved to be an inspired change; moments later, AlvinTov got the ball near the edge of the area, saw Jeremy in a good position inside the box and delicately chipped the ball in his path. There was still work to be done though. Jeremy coolly controlled the ball with his first touch and slotted the ball inside the left of the goal. 2-1 to Songbo FC!

With the score at 2-1, and with Songbo's current defensive record, the game was by no means over. Robinhong created some anxiety for his teammates in defense as he screamed for assistance and displayed his ball holding skills in dangerous areas. However, he did provide moments of burst down the flank to provide support for attacks.

As the clock wind down, a moment of unnecessary madness from the opponent's keeper gave away a needless penalty to Songbo FC. An elbow to nudge off Jeremy when they both tussled for a loose ball saw the referee point to the spot.

A 3-1 scoreline would be a massive relieve for Songbo FC as time was on their side and the win would be assured. Having missed spot kicks previously, Jeremy refused the chance to make it a hat trick. Up stepped the man-in-the-moment, oozing with confidence from his spot kick goal last match, "1 shot 1 kill" Quan walked forward and placed the ball on the spot. Typically, his spot kicks were rocket missiles that flew into the goal (or into the fence), with fatigue already consuming him, he had the mental stability and calmness to place the ball into the bottom left of the goal. 3-1 to Songbo FC! "1 shot 1 kill! 1 shot 1 kill!" came the chants from the bench.

With the win seemingly assured, Songbo FC made their last substitution with Mervin coming in for Tiger Yan. The rest of the match saw Songbo FC defending stoutly to make the win theirs. Final score, 3-1 to Songbo and a trip to Batam awaits.

FIRST CLEAN SHEET OF THE SEASON

Today marks the return of robinho back to songbo fc to help them salvage their batten ridden season =D

Vice capt lam is still missing from the team due to his knee injury, Lusty seng went to taiwan for his wedding photo taking, Toh and Jia xiang unavailable due to work commitments.

Opponents is a team that songbo have never fail to lose against. The opponents know it and so they went on a attack right from the start where they started the kick off. Songbo was pushed back and for the first ten minutes we were on the backfoot and could hardly get a decent possession. Then Songbo began to find the rhythmn back and opponent were being pinned back in their own half and our efforts pay off when a long ball was pumped into the penalty area, el nino controlled it and dribbled towards goal and the opponent tackled him from behind. prrrrrrrrrrr~ referee pointed to the spot without hesitation. Wayang quan stepped up to take the penalty. He stepped up calmly and place his shot accurately into the net. It was heard after the match that he said " Even if its peter schmeichael between the goal post, i would still score!!" Such arrogrance!! Opponents kick off and nearly scored an equaliser few minutes later. A loose ball was picked up by Kelvin and he passed back to Tiger yan, the speed of the ball was slow and the opponent striker was closing down on Tiger, instead of him moving towards the ball and cleared it, he waited for the ball to come to him and opponent was already on him. He was lucky the ball didn't deflect back into goal and he managed to pick it back up. Capt sparrow on the sidelines blasted at him" WTF are you doing? go attack the ball, why wait for it to come to you...blah blah blah" Tiger showed his drogba face and shouted back" you think being GK very easy? you try come and do, you also never become GK before.....blah blah blah" Capt sparrow has no replies to that because he was already laughing his teeth out on the bench.

First half ended with Songbo fc taking a 1-0 lead to the dressing room. Capt sparrow blasted at the team. " This team has totally no bite, why isn't the scoreline showing more? I want more goals!! The worse that can happen after the start of kick off is they equalise and go on to win us! I WANT YOU ALL TO BUCK UP!!" *Note its not exactly what capt sparrow said but the meaning is there lah hahahaha Think capt sparrow is very much disappointed with his liverpool team performance and don't want us to play like liverpool( No pride, No honour as quoted by Tiger Yan). Some changes were made, Robinho in LB and mer in RM was subbed in while huang and sybian take a rest. Papa soh was back in GK position while Tiger went up to create terror in the opponents' defence.

2nd half began with opponent pumping long balls forward from their backline. Songbo easily dealed with it, robinho made his first touch of ball since 6 mths ago with a interception which sparktan received and began our aim for more goals. Our 2nd goal came when a pass was made to El Nino who raced cleared of the defence and the gk came out to block him. But El Nino managed to lob the Gk and GOAL!!!!!!! 2-0 up to songbo fc. Opponents looked exhausted and out of ideas. Kick off resumed. A long ball was launched forward towards Tiger yan. He went to chase the ball and an opponent was going to intercept it. Tiger slipped and went into opponent's balls with his boots high up! ( think opponent no more father's day) Tiger immediately get up and said its an accident, he slipped and went to comfort the opponent. Commando of the opponent team said " cannot get ball, don't go in lah" Tiger heard it and became very angry, flexed his muscles and put on his drogba face" I slipped and slide! SLIPPED SLIPPED SLIPPED!!!" after saying he flexed his muscles again, pumped his fist in the air and walked away in style....LOLssss

Their number 7 is their main target man but he's so wide right that the balls havent reach him, it was already intercepted by songbo defence. One such long ball came and robinho intercepted it and pass on to jackie who went on a run with no defenders stopping him. He swinged a cross in, the gk and jeremy jumped together and both of them with the ball ended up in the net. So was that a cross or a shot by jackie??? Someone pls verify who to award the goal too. Thanks. With 10 mins left into the game, Opponent number 7 left the game and they were playing with only 10 men. It was now noted by the bench that we only played more passing when we are tired and exhausted. It started at the defence where short passings were exchanged before launching another attack. The match ended shortly after. Finally a clean sheet by Songbo fc. Robinho had a good runout for the team too. With this songbo fc now is on a 3 match winning run. Keep it up guys!!

Songbo was back at Fuhua Sec for the 1st time this season and also got a new referee which we had not seen before. The consistently wrong referee was finally gone and Songbo wishes luck to the teams who had gotten him.

The opponents were familiar faces with pink jerseys which we had battled before. It seems they had bring with them foreign imports, with red shirts and 1 odd white shirt. Seems like they were unable to get all their 1st teams members.

The match started and 5 mins into the game, Alvin Cai fell to the ground, holding his left knee. Songbo became worried as it was an old injury. He was later sent off the field, with T.Weijie as the substitute.

Minutes later, an awkward header from Kenny made him strained his neck and was off the field for Alvin Toh with some changes made at the back line. Sources had claimed that actually Kenny had depleted his stamina just mins before after making a sprint from the defense to the front. He had taken the chance to go to the sideline to make a rest.

After a few attacking chances, a corner from Sybian flew towards the opponent's keeper. The keeper, not their 1st choice, drop the ball after trying to make a catch. Alvin Toh, who was just beside, make use of the chance and tap the ball into the goal. 1-0!

Minutes after the restart, a clearance from Seng flew just over the head of the defense. Jeremy ran free from his marker and made a 1st time superb volley from outside the penalty box. The ball flew over the keeper who was off his line and just low enough to go underneath the bar and into the net. 2-0!

Another injury came when Chao tries to make a clearance the ram the ball right into Seng who was in the way. Seng went down, desperately trying to catch for breath. He was later substituted for Kelvin after managing to get up.

2nd half came and Songbo saw the opponents made some changes to their lineup. Songbo maintains their shape and after a few attacks, Sybian was made free on the left flank. He tries to made a cross and the ball got deflected into the path of Alvin Toh. Alvin Toh skillfully lobs the ball with his left foot, just past the keeper who was coming out to close down him, and also just past the pole into the back of the net. 3-0!

In the midst of the game, T.Weijie was shown the 1st yellow card for only his 1st or 2nd game this season. The referee has booked him for kicking the ball away after a foul, which Tan claim that the momentum was already there and the referee was too strict on that.

Rujia and Sybian was later swapped for Kenny and Mervin respectively.

Despite the 3 goal difference, the opponents continue to make forceful advancement, making dives and calling for fouls when just barely making contact. A penalty was given under a this situation with Chao being the victim. He had twice conceded a foul which he had not make and this time it was inside a penalty box and he was furious.

"Choose one side and dive!"
That was what was heard from the bench before the penalty. Black, their penalty taker, also the one who 'won' the penalty, shoots the ball into the middle of goal post. Junbing, who was about to dive to his left, managed to stop and block the ball with his right hand. The ball flew out to give the opponents a corner. All of Songbo was glad that Junbing had not listen to the bench.

Just as everyone thought that god will giving them a clean sheet after not having one this season, Kenny made a blunder by tapping a ball away from Junbing who was about to make a save. Junbing tries a dive with a swing of his hands but was unable to even touch the ball. Songbo helplessly watch the ball bounce into the bottom corner of the goal post. 3-1!

The match ended 3-1 and Songbo received their 4th win this season.

Special Report:

After the match, there was an interview with the own goal scorer.

"I dunno why I did it, but I had subconsciously raised my leg to tap that ball. I could have let go of the ball to Junbing, kick it up high, or clear it to the side but I did none of those."

Maybe he was stressed by work. Maybe he was troubled by family matters. Maybe he was thinking of some girl at that moment. Maybe he wants to show the team how he would have performed if he was place in front. Or maybe he was suddenly possessed by something. It's up to each individual to think what they think it is.

Key Highlihts of the Match

- Our 4th consecutive match with the “eyesless” referee.

- Red card for our Tiger Yan

Pre match:

It was a fine & sunny match day which SB had returned back to the pitch after 3 weeks. Our nitemare begin when we saw a familiar face which we have been seeing for the last 3 macthes.. that is our “eyeless” referee!! This is the 4th consecutive match we are having him as referee.. Hard luck.. As our captain sparrow also failed to inform the organiser boycott this referee. As usual.. The match was started late as the opponents are having difficulties getting out of their bed..

1st Half:

As this team is a full malay team, as we always believed their inabalitily to control high ball but this team has proved us wrong.. in fact they are winning near 100% of the high balls. Opponents are spreading the ball with ease and dominating in midfield.. SB had tried their very best to contain them and they resorting to shoot on sight. However, things getting start to be out of hand. Opponent break through the flanks on few occasions causing problem for SB.. The 1st goal fo the match came from the left flank which opponent has Thief was overran and crosssed the ball. The opponent trapped the ball and past lusty seng without much effort and unleashed a powerful shot past the helpless Tiger..

0-1!!!!!

SB reacted well from the 1st goal shock. Trying to bulit our own game up. Our effort was rewarded when, Zouk Chua sent a high ball over at the right flank to Jack and he managed to keep in play. He continued to advance the opponent defence line. He crossed over to Jeremy with a well-timed & powerful header. The keeper somehow was able to block the ball but th ball was too heavy for him to handle the ball is at the back of the net!!!

1-1!!!!

This is a morale boosting goal for SB. The match continued. Both sides were making effort to add goal to the score sheet but to prevail.. Soon 1st Half ended..

Half time Talk

Sparrow was drilling Lusty seng for his numerous mistakes committed during the 1st half. Guess he is still in his day-dreaming mode, unable to come back to the realistic world..

General tatics for SB are also mentioned to apply during the 2nd half..

2nd Half:

During early 2nd half in fact almost half of the time, SB was still able to contain the opponent's attack and also able to to create couple of chances. One good chance came from SB, which a high ball was tripped from the midfield and found Alvin Toh free on RHS of the penalty box. He continued to dribble to the byline. To our horror, instead of passing the ball to Sparrow who is free from marking, he chose to shot at goal where the angle was compeletely covered by the keeper. As expected the shot was well saved by the keeper. Selfish Alvin..

As the match progressed under the hot burning sun, SB legs were getting heavier. Lusty Seng again letting the opponent past him too easily then, the ball was pass to another overlapping player and a low cross was sent and the following up player stuck out his leg and the ball past PapaSoh...

1-2!!! Another mistake by Lusty Seng..

SB morale was greatly shaken by then. With low morale & low enenrgy level.. Soon the next goal came.. SB committed a corner kick. SB has failed to reorg fast from it. Opponent is using this opportunity by having a short corner. The opponent collected the ball and a powerful shot is taken past Papasoh once again..

1-3!!!

Nevertheless, SB still continue to try very hard to get some respect back.

SB found the another promising chance down the right flank. Jeremy managed evaded tackles from the opponents & pass it to Tiger Yan, And he squared to Alvin Toh on the left.

Beep!!!!!!! Whistle blowed for offside!!!! which is so clear cut that Alvin is not in the offisde position as the injured opponent is in line with him. Another poor call by the referee..

At this point of Time Tiger Yan, was full of anger and ran straight to the referee. Using BOTH of his hand pointing middle finger at him & shouted: “F**K YOU!!, YOU ARE NOTHING!!! blah blah.. we shall let the Tiger Yan to address his reaction later..

Referee then flashed the red card at him & off he goes..

The match is also delayed due to injuiry from opponent which suspected to break his leg during launching tackles at Jeremy earlier on.

The match was resumed. As usual we are again dominated by the opponent. Shots are continued to rain at PapaSoh. However there is no further goals in th scoresheet. The match ended..

Final score 1-3!!

Another disappointing performance by SB.

Judging by our performance, doubt we can have our batam trip in near futre man...

Buck up SB!!! & Boycott this useless referee!! We shall never see him on the field again!! we hope...

Summary
Bullocks

Another weekend, another match, another interesting story to tell.

This week, we welcome back zouk chua, who mysteriously applied for mc in the last match. Though he is making more runs and showing signs of ‘improved’ fitness on the field recently, it doesn’t justify the fact that the team isn’t playing well with him around. On the other hand, our alam shah (giggs-to-be), who has been missing a lot of matches recently (101 reasons), has been displaying better performance. Of course, one can argue that the quality of the opponent should be taken into consideration. But at the end of the day, it’s the results that count.

Our opponent is an all malay team we have yet to play before. Using on one of his standard team talk template, Capt Sparrow, reminds the rest of the team what kind of attacking strategy we should used, against such an opponent.

“Long ball! Long ball! That’s their weakness. Their center defense is BAO JIAK!”

Saying that, he exclaimed that he had a good long early rest the night before and his own performance today should be much better than the previous match. Good Rest = Good Performance? Capt. Sparrow will be putting this theory to the test today. Another ‘scientist’ that intends to test out his own theoryy today is our Mr. Lusty Seng, aka Cyclops. His outstanding performance in the previous matches is largely due to the black glasses that he wore. One wonders why he only brings it out to wear now, even though he has already been wearing the same pair of glasses for his ICT.

The theory he want to test today is, “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broken”.

Thinking that his recently good run of form is due to that pair of glasses but rather his own talent, he decided not to keep it at home. Being the winner of last year’s Best Excuse Award. I must his excuse for not bringing the glasses further justify why he won that award hands down. (Out of the 5 excuses being nominated, 5 of them belong to him).

So with 2 scientists carrying out their own test today, let’s find out what the result will be…

The first few minutes at the start of the match are usually the time used to check out how good your opponents are. With both sides playing carefully, not giving away much of the ball. After understanding what strategy each team is employing, the attacks starts to roll in around 10+mins into the game. A fluent passing game by the opponent managed to create a few good scoring chances. However, the telepathic understand of the defense team enable most, if not all, of the attacks looks easy to cancel out. Compared to the other opponents that we have faced previously, this is definitely one of the teams that match or worse still, falls below our standard. Sensing that the threat from this team isn’t going to be high, confidence started to build up for Songbo. Countless long ball are being directed towards the opponent’s center defense, but time and time again, their ‘Bao Jiak’ duo manages to clear the ball with little difficulty. Bad start for an experiment?

Though the defense is doing well, it is quite clear that Cyclops is missing his glasses. Long balls are misjudged. Tackles are made with 50% of them winning only, compared to around 80% with glasses. All is not lost as Cyclops isn’t performing as worse as we thought he will be. Thus, one doesn’t have to wait until the end of the match to determine whether his experiment is a failure or not. Failure it is, but it isn’t as bad as it is expected to be. Cyclops will need his glasses !!!

Another point to note from this game is that we are being assigned the same referee for 3 consecutive matches. Benefit of doubt can be given to the referee if he officiate it badly in the first game. But if one handles all 3 games badly, it can only mean one thing. Where does he get his license from? Furthermore, if one wears glasses to the match, why take it off during the match? The only reason that I can think of it is if he is wearing sunglasses, but in this case, he is definitely not wearing one!

With this, the first half ended without nothing much to comment about.

The team talk for the 2nd half doesn’t deviate much from the first.

“Long Ball !! BAO JIAK !!”

One must have the thought that the opponent has been hearing what we are saying during team talk. Reason being that instead of them, who is afraid of long balls, we are the ones that conceded a goal from a long shot with just a few minutes into the 2nd half. 1-0.

With a goal down, Songbo stepped up their attacking threats. If they are 10 long balls made in the first half, then there must be like 20+ long balls made in the 2nd. Regardless of the number of long balls we make, the same result surfaced. Their supposedly “Bao Jiak” defense are able to deal cleanly with long balls being pumped in. Surprisingly, the good attacking chances that we’ve created are all from short passes and a bit of individual brilliance. If not for the poor poor finishing, we could have turn the game from a 0-1 defeat to a 4-1 win.

So, what are the experimental results from Capt. Sparrow? Though he did make some superb individual moves. His poor finishing in the end overshadowed all the wonderful efforts that he did earlier. It’s like looking at the back of a lady who have superb figure, but after she turn around, you would have hope that she keep walking with her back to you. Thus, the result for Capt. Sparrow’s experiment is..

Good Rest is not equal to Good Performance.

The matched ended in our defeat.. 0-1.

The morale of the story is… “BAO JIAK BECOMES TIO JIAK”. Or in short.. “BJ BECOMES TJ”..

Finally the booster for the enginee room is back. Alvin was sorely missed in the previous due to his job commitment.

From the way the opponents look, they dun really pose a big threat to song bo. With the usual guys at their usual position, this match looks to be there for the taking. But Houston we have a problem. We got ouself the same referee as last week( I guess he is a Liverpool fan. As his consistency is his inconsistancey.)

The match went under way, without any thing worth mentioning. As the match progresses NBA star seem not to be his usual of hard running and terrorizing the opponents defence. He was like in wonderland, having a good time with alice(he watched the show the day before). He was always caught in no men lands and his only desire was to score join in the attack rather than to defence.

This has caused elvin and captain sparrow to cover the space left behind by this Star. Captain sparrow with the voice like thunder started to F*** the hel l out of this NBA star.
This seem to have wake him up. With a move that started by him, and with the instinct of a natural poacher, he produce a loopig header to the top left corner. GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!1

NBA star looks to stack his claim on the striker role for such a finish. As the match progresses, neither side could gain the control of the game. With another counter attack, Tiger yan unleash a defence splitting pass for el nino to capitalize. However, its just to fast for the speedy striker to catch up.

However, with his never say attitude, he chase after the ball and with a wave of his magic, he lobang the defender who is closing down on him and he unlease a shot towards the goal. GooalLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2-0 to song bo. Changes was make make durig half time. Mervin came on for the wonderland star, wejie for Kevin. Opponents was presented by the referee for a handball by elvin. (he is just suai).

2-1 the score line. DejaJu seems to be in the house where we cant put the match away fpr all the chances that we have missed¡ all the sitters¡¡. Must really put our strikers on some sort of training program. But the keeper must give him credit for all the save that he did¡ world class.

Captain sparrow came to the rescue with a brilliant strike. 3-1 to song bo. As the match progresses. Things stay the same as its for song bo and the opponents and the game ended with 1 common thinfg from both the team. The referee suks big time and he wont be officiating our game for a lpng long time.

A hot sunny sunday coupled with only 12 players and facing 1 leaving at half-time, pundits would expect Songbo to slipped in this match. But they proved all crtics wrong with a convincing 4-3 win over dunearn old uncles. The scoreline could be greater if not for some slack defending and bizarre goalkeeping error. Goals from Goal Machine, TigerYan, Sparrow and Looney were enough to show how balanced Songbo offence was.

Opponents were none other than the Dunearn old uncles which we played against many times. Based on past records, we had more wins over them but we did not belittle them based on tat. Minutes started into the first half, our NBA star (who keep sending his application form for striker but end up being flatly rejected) had 2 shiity crosses tat keep going out for goal kick.

The 3rd one he got it right, with a looping cross from the right flank....it travels to the far post for Goal Machine to head in with ease. 1-0 to Songbo! The joy was shortlived, a one-two by the opponents sends Kelvin in a wild goose chase and crosses to the far post for their striker to head goal. 1-1.....Songbo struggled for a goal and they are finally rewarded few gd minutes b4 half time. A flick on by Sparrow sends TigerYan racing to towards goal with the GK to beat. Their centre back although tried to pull back Tiger, but he is simply unstoppable , with not much choices to left. that centre back tried to hit the ball out of play. But the ball chipped ahead of the keeper and it seems destined to bounce into the net....TigerYan even shouted "Goal' as he ran towards the goalpost, only to see the ball bounces off the post and lucky he is near the ball at tat moment and he swipe the ball in! 2-1 up!

The scoreline remain until halftime n the spirits were high. WayangQuan was injured in the midst of 1st half, so he had no choice but to be replaced by Mervin. Songbo 3rd chance came through a corner by Jackie. A perfectly cross to the centre of the 6 yard box, met Sparrow and he power head the ball into opponents' net. 3-1! up. 4th goal came minutes later, a freekick by Jackie which was supposed to be a cross ended up into the net when their keeper fails to grab hold of the ball, letting it fly pass his hands. 4-1 up......

Songbo bcame YaYa Papaya.....they changed TigerYan for PapaSoh and decide not to run for ball so often. A cross by the opponent as similar as their first goal was met by a header into the far post wif TigerYan nearly rooted on the ground. 4-2!....the deficit was cut to 2 goals.

With a 2 goal cushion, Sparrow decide to change for Wayang Quan. The match became more one sided after the substitution. Songbo can only defend n defend throughout. With so called 5min left by the referee, Songbo players were pyschologically alert for only 5min, and the 3rd goal came when a cross from the right flank was met by a first time volley towards the bottom left of the goal. The shoot was poor and the stand in keeper TigerYan tot that goal might be going out, pretends to dive for show....but to his horror, the ball was straight towards goal and he can only see the ball stroll into goal. 4-3!!!!

Finally the match ended after some charity work was done by the referee to the opponents.

Special mention to Lusty Seng for staying back to play for us knowing we had a player less due to injury(Wayang Quan). He certainly knows the meaning behind the word 'STEP UP'. Wat a man!

Summary

It was a return to one of our home grounds. Songbo were looking to used the familiarity of the grounds to gain some advantage. However, our opponents today were always going to be a tough match. They were a full-Indian team that we had lost to before. Upon sighting them, SB's mental strength were put to the test - even before the match has started!! The team started warming up while awaiting the arrival of their star player - PapaSoh.

He finally arrived admist much fanfare as both SB members and the opponents look at him in awe as he strolled into the compound at around 920am. However, he was quite disturbed that some Indian WAGs took a tad too long a look at him. He quickly "siam" to the SB changing area and changed into his gear. Perhaps Capt Sparrow realised that some SB members needs a wake-up call after a string of poor or mediocre results. He decided that he had to unleash the very hungry Papasoh and let him show some of the SB members what hunger and mental strength is all about and the lost for generations and rarely seen skill -its called the You-dun-need-to-run-a-lot-to-contribute-positively-skill. Papa was going to be unleashed behind Torres today. With Torres just back recently from injury and not exactly sharp, and most SB attackers lacking sharpness and confidence, the personnel shuffle by Capt sparrow proved to be a master stroke!! - He could have won the world cup if he had a chance.....

Masterstroke aside, the most annoying thing had to happen ...again...Referee is LATE! and I mean really late! He strolled into the match compound....at the stroke of half-time!!!! Yes.... @ 940am sharp. Nowadays referee simply have no respect towards star players as can be seen that in this case he was actually 20 mins later than the star player from SB....Sigh!!!

To be continued........

SONGBO FC POSTED BEST RESULTS AT YISHUN

Songbo return to the pitch after a rare win from the last outing. Wins are hard to come by in the year of 2010 as the players are still in the festive mood. A match right at the middle of a Chinese new year period was never the best of ideas and most importantly it was at our worse hunting ground. From previous records, SB has never ever taken any draws or wins from that ground the least goals conceded being 5, things are never looking bright for SB. The match being played at afternoon 3 o clock with El Nino effect and with only 11 eleven players being available SB all the arrows are pointing towards a new record, number of goals conceded.

With the clock turning 3.20 the match did not start due to be the referee being late. It turned out to be a blessing as our late king once again came in late even later than the referee. Due to the limited players available, the team picked itself. Our G king has to take up a position in a left back position. G king has always been known for his speed and dribbling but his defending always a big question mark, it is only a disaster waiting to happen. The rest of the team took up their usual position with a swimsuit Toh taking the lone striker role. By wearing swimsuit in the pool would increase speed and power but on the pitch would it have the same effect?

The match start with SB at the back foot as the difference in the size of pitch shows as SB were virtually second to every ball. Opponent number 22 is running the midfield show, the passing and dribbling of the opponent left SB chasing shadows. But once again SB strength in holding the shape and counter attack prevails. Against the run of the play, a throw in by NBA star allow sparrow to go down the right wing which he did superbly to hold off a defender and dispatch the ball into the net. Good play by SB and poor goalkeeping by the opponent.

The goal fired up the opponent as they went up a gear to chase the game. A simple one two with number 22 put their number 10 away with an easy finish. The whole Midfield and Defense went to sleep. Instead of a short nap, SB continue to be in their dreamland. This time round G king was the one rape. He must be thinking about his wonderful adventure of driving a few rounds the night before. A simple pass around G king left the whole left back area naked. Another simple finish for their number ten.

From 1-0 up to 2-1 down within mins , SB could only fear for the worse. The previous night, Manu went from 1-0 up to lose a game 3-1. Is it a case of Déjà vu? SB wake up from dreamland to put some pressure on the opponent earning a few free kicks and corner kick. Set piece has always been SB biggest assets but on this occasion it worked against us. Looney from 30 yards out attempt a free kick on goal, to everyone’s surprise instead of lifting the ball over the wall and into the net he went for power. The ball went off the wall and was turned into a counter attack. Opponent make good use of this chance and a cross over from the right side was put into the net by Number 10. SB just did the impossible by making their number 10 look like Andrew Cole with this hat-trick. A halftime whistle soon followed.

Sparrow gave the team a good dressing down at half time. Apparently five 100plus from the Ma Ma shop is still not enough for the whole team as the heat was too much for everyone to take. Sparrow ask everyone to stay focus an try to get something from the match, the 3-1 score-line seems harsh on SB as they only have 3 shots on targets all went it. Is the curse of player of the year coming back again? You can’t blame papa for any of the goals he was left with no cover on the pitch. The whistle goes off and the team march on to the pitch.

SB began to gain stoner hold in the battle as Midfield engine started running and the defense got their act together. As an individual SB is never a match for any team but as a team, SB is almost as good as 90% of the team we had faced so far. Our team work allow us to mount the pressure on opponent. Off one corner that was half cleared, swimsuit Toh was put cleared after a brilliant chest down by him. If only his finish is half as good as his chest down, SB would be 3-2 down and with a good fighting chance to get something out of the match. Despite the miss, SB push even harder to get that goal. A good cross from the right was chest down wonderfully by swimsuit Toh once again, this time round from 6 yards out he put his shot towards the corner flag. Even the referee sighed at that shot. It’s not SB day as players start to slow down due to the weather.

As fatigue clearly became a problem for SB, opponent slowly gained an upper hand on the match. Their defenders are slowly moving into SB half. Their Malay center half whom is both footed let go of a good left foot curler into the net despite PAPA getting a hand onto the ball. Papa could have done better with the shot, if the weight of the player of the year award is not with him maybe he would be able to make a good save out of the shot. Or maybe he is trying to force his way into a striker position with such a performance.

As the clock runs down SB still got time to earn a free kick in a dangerous position. Swimsuit Toh in hope of 3rd time lucky push everyone away and to take the freekick. With the confidence in his face he ran up to curl the ball. What a shot that was, there was a comment from G king that the bird is the sky was being shot down by him. Even the referee could not stop shaking his head over that shot. What an evening for swimsuit and SB. To everyone relief the whistle came soon after, the weather is taking too much for everyone. The game goes 4-1 to the opponent and SB claim their best result ever on that pitch. The first half dismay display by SB is being offset by a relatively good second half performance.

Morale of the story – Swimsuit are worn in the pool would give you power and speed but on pitch would only make it would make your chest be better than your foot!!!!!! If only there is a game called chest ball and we know who would be the outright winner.

***Special mention for Alvin Toh for his effort to arrange a game for SB.

SAP registration issue

According to some reliable sources, 苹果乱报 has reported one of SongboFC senior member, Wayang Quan, previously from ABAAP, has filed for singlehood and has claimed to join SAP through his social networking portal, Facebook.

SAP secretary general, Tiger Yan, has clarified to the press that membership into SAP has to go through a stringent screening and assessment process before allowing a person to enter the party. In the case for Wayang Quan, there is no formal registration submitted to SAP.

SAP vice-chairman, Mervin Teo, has emphasised the point that should anyone proclaimed themself as a member of SAP without legal authorization, SAP will not hesitate to file charges against that person.

When asked about the issue of Wayang Quan's recent erractic behaviour, Mervin Teo says, " I believe there must be some setback in his recent love life. I really hope things will turn out well for him and his partner. As SAP has a social responsibility to uphold, i have to stop him from claiming he is now a member of SAP."

苹果乱报 so far has not captured any indecency of Wanyang Quan. But has reported that the case is somehow similar to Tiger Woods and John Terry. SAP legal advisor, Seafood King commented, " Maybe he is emulating what the super sportstars did, so that he can be referred to as one."

To regain the confidence from the thrashing last week, T.Weijie arranged his team of commandoes which we heard was thrashed by 11 goals. There was a rare sight of 15 players with alvin toh who joined back the team after a long time.

Before the match, our captain reminded us to give respect to the opponents, give in our 120% and show them what their OC's team is made of.

The match started and the 1st goal came when Songbo win their 1st corner. Jacky selfishly curled the ball directly into the goal, leaving the opponents stunned. 1-0.

Songbo was given alot of chances to attack as the opponents' defenders committed alot of foul throws.

After a few attacks, detecting that their own gk has problem taking goal kicks, one of the defenders went to help. He took the kick but the ball went low and towards Yan, who calmly trapped the ball to Jeremy. Jeremy dribbled past the last defender and slid the ball past the incoming gk into the bottom left corner of the goal post. 2-0

Songbo was playing like Real Madrid at some point, with 5 attackers and 5 defenders, leaving the midfield empty. The opponents was using this to their advantage and controlled the mid with their skillful midfielders.

Although there was some confusion in the Songbo defense with the new pairing of Kenny and Hweequan in the center defense, they managed a clean sheet in the 1st half as there were not much threat with the opponents' attacks.

Half time came and our captain reminded us again that 2 goal difference is still not a safe result. We should tighten our defense and attack if there is a chance.

The 2nd half started and the opponents started to attack from the flanks. Their goal came when Kelvin raised his hand for a ball which was over the line but the referee continues the play and the opponent took the chance and cross the ball. Hweequan was there to make a a difficult heading clearance, but the ball went to the opponent and he took it past Hweequan who was off-balance after clearing the ball. Kenny tries to block the shooting path but the opponent calmly lobs the ball over him and the gk and into the top right corner of the goal. 2-1.

The midfield was losing balls to the opponents and Songbo was under constant attacks. Songbo manage to keep their lead with the experience of the defense.

Songbo's 3rd goal came when they did a counter-attack and managed to pass the ball to Jeremy, who fake past a defender and dribbling towards the goal with another defender chasing behind him. After managing to lure the gk out of position, he lobs the ball to the other end of the goal, where Sybiant was unmarked and easily heads the ball into the empty net. 3-1.

The fourth goal came when Songbo wins another corner, Jacky crossed the ball into the heart of the penalty box and unmarked, Rujia heads the ball into the back of the net. 4-1.

The final whistle went off and Sonbgo got their 1st win of the season.

The first match of the season has never been the favourite time for Songbo FC as we are renowned for being the perennial slow starters. Coupled with the fact that our last season ended earlier with more than a few weeks to spare, it certainly doesn’t bode well for this match.

Opponents for the day: a hungry and noisy team of Malays which seem certain to slaughter the holiday-mood Songbo for breakfast. The availability of the full squad did little to tilt the favour as most of the players were still re-living the fun they had during X’mas or New Year. To make matters worse, the majority of the team arrived later than the stipulated time of 8:30am.

The match started tentatively but the opponents were quick to stamp their authority on the match as they controlled the engine room with ease. It didn’t take long for them to convert their domination into goals as a foul on the edge of the penalty area allowed them to take a direct free kick. A seemingly weak kick floated over the wall and Papa Soh seemingly got the angle covered. The ball bobbled through his gloves and over the line as the blunder left the reigning Player of the Year red-faced and opponents gushing at their good luck.

Songbo’s defence appeared hesitant while the midfielders seemed to be off the mark. The attackers did not have the guile or support to trouble the opponent’s seemingly weak defence as well. The action was mostly in the last third of Songbo’s defending area and the lead was soon doubled and tripled in quick succession.

Poor reading and anticipation in the defence allowed through balls to be played in with ease as the opponents took advantage of the failed office trap and raced to a three-nil lead within the first half hour with two simple goals. Songbo was creeping into the game each time and the opponents responded with the two goals to kill off hopes of any comeback. Their goalkeeper and fancy defenders looked to be the weakest link but Songbo tried to test their defence with corners and hassling but to no avail.

The opponents scored the fourth goal just before half time and the match seemed to be over when Songbo hasn’t seem to have even started! The half time talk was a challenge for Sparrow. Coincidentally, he was just thinking what Steve Bruce might have said to his charges when they were 4-0 down to Chelsea at halftime in an EPL match the night before. Gameplan was simple: Salvage some pride as if this match is going to shape our fortune for this coming season.

Songbo started the second half with more passion and purpose after the halftime lashing. A hopeful long ball from Papa Soh early and El-Nino managed to bundle the ball over the line as a result of hesitant defending from the opponents. Songbo was beginning to trouble the opponents with their direct brand of football as chances trickled in and weaknesses exposed in the opoonent’s backline. It even appeared at one point as if Songbo was possibly able to get something out of the game. In the end, the opponent’s skills proved too much to handle as they unleashed their deadly left winger and put paid to any hopes of a comeback with a clinical take-down and half volley into the top corner of the goal.

The match ended 5-1 as Songbo was able to leave the field with heads slightly high, given their spirited second half performance. However, if this match was to shape the things for this upcoming season, it seem like Songbo is in for an uphill task to improve or even maintain previous seasons’ performances if they continue to play at this level.

Tiger Yan

Massimo Taibi...a name not commonly known to people except those that started watching football since the 90s. This 'legendary' figure to Songbo is someone that they dun wish to be associated with. First, Taibi spirit starts to creep into our ever reliable PapaSoh....and now for the match 125....his spirit decided to flow into another person....Tiger Yan.

First half was a stalemate at 0-0, due to incompatability with Sparrow, Goal Machine and Tiger upfront. Just like the current England squad, the 3 of them has proven that they can't play together. With Papasoh leaving at half time for work issue, its Tiger Yan who took up the post.

Minutes into the 2nd half, with the abscense of our speedy Seafood King, the opponent races clear and one-to-one with Tiger....Tiger waited till he is in firing range and charges out....but with Taibi possessed inside him....he touches the ball but somehow the ball bounces off the opponent's leg and its 0-1!

"God damn it!" exclaimed Tiger. But its not over....2nd attempt saw a ball slide under his body after another one-to-one situation, but lucky CapiTan is there to do a last ditching clearance near the line. 3rd attempt saw Lam clearing the ball near the line after the ball bounces off Tiger.

When morale was lowest at this time, our Sparrow stepped up....with a through pass from Goal Machine from the centre mid...saw Sparrow chasing down the left side of the box and a left foot shot put the ball into the near post. 1-1!!!! Songbo equalised.
Minutes later, a long cross from Looney at the left flank was intended for Goal Machine, but he dumbie the ball to Sparrow and he was clear from the centre of the box, he dribbles down and slide it past the keeper. 2-1!!!! Goooooaaal!

"Beep Beep!" the referee calls for full time.
The team was happy and it was laughter at the stands. "Y u always so slow in coming out for the ball?....come out faster and communicate more..." this sentence keep repeating into Tiger's ears.
"I totally understand ur concerns gentlemens, but i am more confident staying by the line and use my reflexes to save the ball than coming out and give the striker an easier chance." explained Tiger.

Before they leave the pitch for their usual lunch session, Songbo members heard something..."hard disk now with who ah?"....the voice came from Looney.

Our opponents for the day were youngsters (nasi lemak). As usual, the team went thru the pre-match routine of shooting and crossing and getting some touches. The team is still missing our "mascherano" due to injury but dunno whether he wayang or not.

While sizing up our opponents, instruction were clear. We are to hold the fort against our younger opponents and to counter attack them, with high balls nto their box. While this may seem like a cliche, it is found to be one of the most reliable and effective tactic against our nasi lemak opponents.

The match started without much fan fare and the first half was a stalemate. Songbo FC were doing their part in holding out their younger and fitter opponents and chances were few and far between. Most of the battles were fought in the mig-field and neither sides had any clear-cut chances to take the lead under the afternoon heat.

The second half was a different story altogether! Instructions were to keep up the focus and not make mistakes. So far, our defence were holding out well and midfielders were matching thir younger counterparts stride for stride. Songbo FC were finally rewarded when Torres open the scoring after some nice work by Jackie Chan. 1-0! The lead seems so against the run of play and came out of a searching cross by Jackie chan but ever the nasi lemak, opponents underestimated the heading prowess of our toress and allow him to slip in unnoticed to nod the ball home!

After taking the lead, the opponents seems to find strength from some unknown sources and kept piling up the pressure on the team's defence. Alas, the City Wall was finally breached after a lapse of concentration by our defenders. A hopeful cross field ball was punted upfield and our ever-reliable C-cup collided with botak Kel and the ball fell invitingly to their winger who needed no invitation to lash home a first time shot past the helpless Papa Soh. 1-1!

Songbo FC are not to be beaten so easily. Recently we have had the training of gifting our opponents simple and silly goals in the hope of training our fighting back mental abilities. This training proved to be quite useful as SongBo FC capitalised on a set piece. A free kick was punted into their penalty box and Sparrow seems to be a tad too late to the ball but somehow managed to toe-poked or slice the ball past their lumbering goal keeper. 2-1!

On better days, SongBo Fc would have closed shop, lock up the grilles and prepare for the Mee-Pok session later. Somehow, C-cup seem to be thinking whether to eat "xiao wan mian" or normal mee-pok when another diagonal ball was punted into the danger area. It was exactly the same type of ball like the opponents first goal and this time, our two defenders seems to know how to get out of each others way but problem is both stood watching and thought the other will attack the ball. The end result was a first time volley by the thankful rightwinger again past papasoh. 2-2!!

Its a shame really not to hold on to the lead on both occasiona but then again, SongBo FC will be back fighting because we know we are better than this!!!
