After 5 weeks of “fresh blood”, this week’s opponent is an “old blood”. One that we have battered for quite a few matches already. The stats are in favour of us as out of all the encounters, we came out victorious with only a draw. However, this won’t be an easy fight due to the vast amount of experiences the opponents have. This match also boosts the return of our much-miss captain. Whose “unfortunate incident” took quite a toll and rendered him unfit for the past few matches. However, we’ll be missing veterans Sybian and Yan due to “other commitments”. They’re total contribution of 9 goals in 6 games is something that the team will miss badly. The tactics we’re adopting for today will be “finish them early, score as much goals as we can. Defend well”.
The first half started off normally, with both teams having the fair share of the possession. The first goal came sort of unexpectedly. Their goalkeeper made a short pass to the last man, Jiaxiang went forward to exert pressure and managed to pry the ball of him. Taking the ball to the byline, he made a low cross to the center, hoping for someone to made contact with it. There came “Ronaldo”, who’s back from Taiwan and is on a goal drought for 2yrs! An easy tap in for him. 1-0.
In the search of a 2nd goal, our team made a costly mistake by letting their wingers run down to their frank and makes a dangerous cross to the far pole. Another easy tap-in, not for us, but for the opponents. 1-1.
Even though 0-0 and 1-1 looks similar, the effect it have on the team is very different. Morales are low as compared to the start of the match. Sensing the team spirit is decreasing as time goes by, our captain decided to take things into his own hands and wave a few magic of his own. A throw in from the side line, cool control with his legs, he hit the ball with a sliding tackle move that caught their keeper unaware. Thought he managed to parry it, the ball fall into the path of Jiaxiang, who wasted no time to slot the ball into the back of the net. 2-1. One goal difference isn’t enough, that’s what our captain thought. Thus, with the same throw in from the side lines, instead of trapping the ball down, he made a first time half volley. It was executed nicely, as the ball was directed to the bottom left corner. 3-1.
3-1 was the half-time score line. Captain reminded us again that we should not be complacent as letting in a goal will put our team under serious pressure. The opponent share similar thoughts too, as the 2nd half opened up with them attacking furiously. Thought the defence is holding up well, but still, the goal came. It was an utterly crappy goal. A clearly by Junbing was unlucky to have hit the opponent and landed in front of an empty goal. The on rushing H.Weijie was unable to stop the fellow up from their striker to, for the 3rd time in match, tap the ball into an empty net. 3-2.
Like what our captain has predicted. Sensing that a draw or even a win is possible now, the opponents step up another level. Wave upon wave of attacked followed. But thankfully, the defence and midfield all done their job well enough to keep the danger out. At this time, knowing that he’ll need to take out his magic dust out again to ease the pressure off the team. Our captain once again show us why he’s the captain. Chesting the ball down from a throw in, he flick the ball off a on rushing keeper. With the keeper to beat only, he “calmly/hengly/tai-ko-ly” chip the ball over him. 4-2. Pressure’s off !!
With all hopes dashed, the opponent conceded the match and it’s a 6th consecutive win for Songbo !! History in the making !! 2 goals and 1 assist is a very satisfying way to welcome our ever-prominent captain back from his absence. Huat ah ~~ !!
Cheers,
